Job Description
Uncommon Middle School Math teachers work in grade level teams to help students grow towards being self-guided learners. At the heart of all math classes is a deep joy for mathematics, and our teachers work hard to refine their own mastery of the subject. Math teachers use a variety of instructional strategies to cultivate the skills and the mindset required to persevere and solve problems. At the conclusion of eighth grade, students are prepared for the academic autonomy and college preparatory focus of our high schools.
Responsibilities
1. Instruction
You'll teach foundational middle school math principles such as ratio/proportions, expressions/equations, the number system, and more!
You'll use our in-house CCSS-based Math curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities.
You'll motivate students to grapple with problems and think critically about all the different possible paths to solving them.
You'll use your love of mathematics to foster confidence and meaningful engagement with the subject for students.
2. Data Analysis
You'll meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments.
You'll learn and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.
3. School Culture
You'll build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
You'll partner with students' families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their child's learning needs.

Certification is not required to be hired at Uncommon, but you do need to meet NY state certification eligibility requirements. To meet these requirements, you must enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher during your employment with us if you do not have a degree in education. Uncommon Schools teachers are required to become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment.

Job Description
Uncommon Special Education teachers are passionate about developing and monitoring accommodations for students with special needs. Special Education teachers advocate for students and believe that specialized instruction and related services increase academic achievement. Reporting to the Academic Dean, the 2nd Grade Teacher will be responsible for building meaningful relationships with students, implementing a Common Core-aligned curriculum, and working with their grade team, leadership team, and student support team to analyze data to drive instruction. Follow and enforce Association and departmental policies, including the substitute policy.
Attend YMCA program for snow days and other school holiday/vacation days/days off as needed by the YMCA.
Observe that all policies and procedures are being upheld including NYS Regulations.
Maintain required number of children to adequately maintain budget.
Substitute at other YMCA SACC sites as required.
