The Co-Teacher will be responsible for the general supervision of a group of 8 infants and toddlers aged six weeks to three years and the delivery of comprehensive Early Head Start services. The Co-Teacher will assume the duties of the center manager at times when the manager is absent.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
CENTER ACTIVITIES: Primary caregiver for no more than four infants and toddlers, or 5 two-year-olds in a 2 year old class. Create and maintain an atmosphere in which children and their parents feel welcome, valued, comfortable, and secure. Ensure physical, environment is clean, safe, and inviting; is stimulating and conducive to learning; is respectful of the children's cultures and ethnic diversity and reflects the needs of the children served; and that space in the classroom is well organized into easily recognizable functional areas. CENTER MAINTENANCE: Assist with the orderly arrangement and general appearance of the center including, but not limited to, maintaining supplies and materials, monitoring equipment, cleaning up at mealtime and playtime.
RECORD KEEPING: Monitors and supervises each child's progress through individual assessments and record keeping. Oversees children's daily records and ensures that reports are sent home daily.
PARENT CONTACT: Conducts two parent conferences and two home visits annually to discuss children's progress. Honors other parental requests for conferences. Works with parents to create home learning activities that support the child's school readiness and promote parents as their child's first teacher. Contributes program information for the parent newsletter. Assists the center manager with providing information to parent and visitor inquiries about the program. Supports parents and children with transitioning into and out of the EHS program.
SUPERVISION: Provides leadership and assists in supervision for assistant and associate teachers, work-study students and interns including, but not limited to, providing training, and writing performance evaluations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification is an Infant Toddler CDA (Child Development Associate Certificate) or obtain CDA within 6 months of Hire.

A Special Education Diagnostic Teacher's role is provide academic/achievement testing to children ages 6-21 and collaborate with school staff, parents and outside agencies as appropriate. Function as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to determine the student's eligibility for special services, appropriate programming, and on-going progress. Summary: To create a developmentally appropriate elementary grade program and a positive class environment that promotes learning and personal growth; motivates students to develop skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to provide a strong foundation for learning, as outlined in our district's stated Ends Policy. Responsible for establishing effective relationships with students, parents/guardians, staff, and community members to enhance learning opportunities. Subscribes to and applies the principles of Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) for the benefit of student and employee development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other

Develops standards-based lesson plans and instructional material and employs current and best practice in establishing pedagogical techniques. Using a universal design, adapts curriculum, materials, and assessments to instruct the whole class, individuals, and small groups meeting the needs of every student.
Demonstrates an understanding of Common Core State Standards and applies knowledge in order to develop age appropriate lessons.
Assesses and monitors learning using a variety of methods, including formative assessment, and adjusts instruction according to individual student needs.
Communicates regularly with parents/guardians outside the normal instructional day by such means as: newsletters, notes, phone calls, e-mails, and conferences.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere using research-based protocols.
Evaluates student's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
Identifies student needs, designs appropriate instruction, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans.
Is available to students and parents/guardians for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
Plans, coordinates, and supervises the work of others (i.e.: assigned employees, parents/guardians, and volunteers) while present in the classroom and on field trips.
Creates a respectful and safe environment that is developmentally appropriate for age/grade of students and that meets required safety codes.
Instruct students in citizenship and required subject/curriculum areas using current best practices and, as specified, in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school and district.
Attends meetings and collaborates with other staff to coordinate instruction and student learning.
Actively participates in school activities and assignments towards the education and supervision of all students.
Demonstrates the Core Teaching and Leadership Standards for Vermont Educators.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Vermont Teaching License with appropriate endorsement for content and/or grade level.

Planning & Preparation
Effectively integrates solid content knowledge into the curricula, makes connections between the content and other parts of the student discipline(s), and develops relationships among topics and concepts in teaching plans and practices.
Integrates current best practices, research, and education laws into the teaching plans and practices, to assure the most effective educational program for our students.

Develops and implements and effective system to maintain accurate, complete and confidential student records including student completion of assignments, student progress in learning, and other non-instructional records.
Prepares and submits accurate, complete, timely and effective reports as required by law, district policy, and/or administrative regulations.
Communicates/collaborates effectively with parents to keep families informed of the instructional programs and individual student progress, and effectively responds to parent concerns and engages families to help meet the educational needs of the student. Means of communication may include annual open house, observation sessions for parents, conferences, weekly newsletters, sessions for program discussion, making home visits, and other individual meetings as necessary.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to, evaluated by, and receives general administrative and technical direction from the School Principal and/or Assistant Principal. May receive some technical direction from the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment. Grades 9-12: Reports to and receives general administrative direction from the Department Chair. Evaluated by the School Principal and/or his/her designee with input from the Department Chair. May receive some technical direction from the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in training, planning, and directing the activities of assigned paraeducators; plays an advisory role in evaluation, hiring, and continued employment.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:
Education and Experience. Bachelor's degree and working knowledge of Vermont's Framework of Standards required. Recent experience working in a Vermont school district preferred.
Certifications and Licenses. Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License. Holds the appropriate endorsement(s) and meets all the basic competencies and qualifications of the endorsement(s) as listed in the Regulations Governing the Licensing of Educators and the Preparation of Educational Professionals.
Language Skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common educational and technical journals, periodicals and procedures, and regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals that conform to school/district standards or regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, parents, peers, board members and the general public.
Mathematical/Reasoning Skills. Ability to interpret and use test results by applying math concepts such as standard error of measurement, bands of confidence, standard scores, and percentiles. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills and Experience. Good basic computer skills and experience with word processing programs required. Experience with Microsoft Office helpful.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills. Ability to effectively, efficiently and regularly communicate and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals, including students, peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and representatives of outside organizations. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and handle stress.
