Middle School/Jr High/High School Math & Science Teachers Wanted for Fun After-School Tutoring!
Sylvan Learning Center is looking for fun, dedicated teachers and tutors to help and inspire students. We are currently looking for teachers and tutors who are able to teach Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus. Statistics, Calculus, and other high-school sciences are a plus.
As a Sylvan instructor, you will be tasked with working with students of all ages. While your primary focus will be helping high school students with their math homework, you may occasionally be called upon to work with late-elementary and middle school students with our pre-built curriculums. These are easy-to-teach, pre-planned lessons which involve explaining a topic to a student, and then having the student work independently using what they just learned. You will also play a key role in motivating and connecting with each student, so they feel inspired to learn.

Each student will typically ask questions about their classwork or homework for the day. Sometimes they will need help preparing for a test
For some students, you will use pre-planned lessons. They are straightforward, easy to manage, and fun to teach
Teach students in a small group setting. There will be no more than 3 students per teacher.
Most teachers choose to work 2-5 days/week

Job Requirements
AA degree required in a discipline requiring 2 or more years of college level math
Advanced knowledge and familiarity with teacher or tutoring in the areas of Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry and Trigonometry, Calculus
Minimum of one or two years teaching or tutoring experience preferred

Job Title: Writing Center Peer Tutor Work Study Department: The Hub/Library Reports to: Library Manager Semester: Fall 2025 Number of Openings: 2 Rate of Pay: $12.00 per hour Summary: Are you particularly good at writing papers or giving speeches? Do you enjoy helping others? Are you able to guide and facilitate discussion without giving students the answer, providing guidance with correct grammar, punctuation, proofreading, or formatting? These are very real skills, and if you possess them, you may enjoy being a writing center peer tutor! Writing Center peer tutors aid with writing papers or speeches, and proofreading papers in the ECC Library. Tutors are typically current ECC students who have completed courses such as Composition 105 or 106 and speech (subject availability varies by semester)
Essential Job Duties:
* Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in writing across all disciplines.
* Assist students at any stage of the writing process (planning, drafting, revising, editing). Support students in developing grammar, structure, citation, and critical thinking skills.
* Encourage student independence and confidence in writing.
* Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress.
* Collaborate with faculty and staff to support writing assignments and student learning.
* Accurately log work hours and sessions in Paycor and approve timecards by the designated deadline.
* Help maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive tutoring environment.
Abilities:
* Successful completion of a course he/she will be tutoring (Passing grade of B or higher)
* Maintain good academic standing, i.e., a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
* Exceptions to the above require prior approval and are at the discretion of the director of student success.
* Must legally protect all students' right to privacy and never identify who he/she is tutoring nor make any comments to others about the student he/she is tutoring.
* Communicate any schedule changes, concerns, etc., promptly.
* Check iavalley e-mail account daily or every other day.
* Be at work on time, leave on time, and treat every student with respect.
* Comfortable in interacting with all students regardless of their academic abilities, nationalities, races, ancestries, age, religious beliefs, sexes, marital status, and sexual orientation.
