Embedded math tutors support student learning and success directly within the classroom and beyond. Job Duties: Embedded tutors work alongside the instructor to provide timely, student-centered support. They engage with students during class, assist with activities, and encourage the use of tutoring services outside of class. They aim to build rapport, offer encouragement, and foster a supportive learning environment that strengthens students' understanding and motivation. This position reports to the Tutor Coordinator and works in partnership with a course instructor. Embedded tutors attend class sessions regularly and meet with students one-on-one or in small groups through Learning Commons tutoring services (in-person or virtual). Additional responsibilities include attending trainings, logging tutoring appointments in Starfish, and participating in program feedback and meetings. Minimum Qualifications: * Grade of an A or B in MAT 150 - College Algebra & MAT 155 - Trigonometry * Successful completion of 12+ college credits at an accredited college. * Two professional references, at least one of whom is a faculty member who teaches math or science at an accredited college. * Overall college GPA 3.0 or above.     Show Job Details for Instructor, Mathematics Apply Now for Instructor, Mathematics The Department of Mathematics at Western Kentucky University seeks to fill a nine-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor I with the potential for promotions. The position begins on August 10, 2026. Appointment will be on a year-by-year basis, with a performance review occurring annually. The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate mathematics courses and may also teach courses in the areas of math education and/or statistics, depending on qualifications. Candidates who hold a terminal degree in mathematics or a closely related field may also have the opportunity to teach graduate-level courses. Core Responsibilities: Teaching: Deliver engaging and effective instruction in undergraduate mathematics courses, ranging from introductory to upper-level courses. Candidates with terminal degrees may also teach graduate-level courses. Curriculum: Prepare and develop course materials, lessons, assignments, and assessments. Student Support: Provide timely feedback, hold regular office hours, and actively support student learning and success. Service: Participate in departmental, college, university, and community service activities Job Requirements: * Earned master's degree in mathematics or a closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate-level mathematics prior to the date of employment. * Evidence of effective teaching and ability to work collaboratively with departmental colleagues. * Strong communication skills and ability to teach and support students with a wide range of mathematical preparation. * Demonstrated commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment that promotes the academic and personal growth of all students.
