Teachers must be able to keep up with their students, control them until reaching their destination and remain with the students at that location. BUILDINGS: Students in each individual classroom are required to move about in the buildings from the classroom to the lunchroom, the chapel and/or the school office. Teachers must be able to accompany students in the hallways or in other places in the building as they move from one location to another location. CLASSROOM: Elementary teachers must be able to prepare bulletin boards (monthly) between 2 ½-6 feet in height so that students can see the necessary information. This includes reaching overhead, bending, and ability to adhere items to board/wall with appropriate media. Must have sufficient vision and hearing to allow for active supervision and interaction with students. May be required to move children's desks, work tables, chairs, or re-configure room. TEACHING: Teachers must be able to demonstrate lesson concepts using chalkboards, media, hands-on materials and computers. Teachers are required to prepare evaluation reports, fill in records, and on numerous occasions, communicate with parents both verbally and in writing. SUPERVISION: Indoor (classroom, play areas): Teachers must be able to actively supervise students within the classroom or in the gymnasium area for indoor/outdoor recess or physical education. Outdoor (playground, parks, parking lot): Teachers in the elementary school must be able to supervise students in their classroom or while on the playground, parking lot, or park. Overall Supervision (in all areas) students must have adult supervision at all times. It is understood that students can not be left unattended at any time and/or in the left alone without the presence of a teacher, aide, staff, or ACS approved/ fingerprinted adult(s). EMERGENCIES: A teacher must be able to quickly summon help when an emergency arises either in the classroom, gymnasium, or on the playground. Teachers are required to render minimal first aid to students who may be injured while in the classroom, gymnasium, or on the playground. ATTENDANCE: Teachers are required to be present daily half an hour before the children arrive until half an hour after the children depart. Our courses are an integral part of many degrees offered at SCC. We work collaboratively with our science colleagues to create optimal and efficient schedules for many majors. We believe in the value of in person instruction. Our Statistics and Liberal Arts Mathematics courses have fully online options, but not some other STEM courses. The college requires that a majority of a teaching load be taught in person at our sites. Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Develop, review, and maintain currency of curriculum for courses in collaboration with other instructors as well as the articulation officer. * Provide instruction in accordance with established program course outlines of record; inform/advise students about program requirements; evaluate and provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed reports and required documents; and maintain required student attendance, scholastic records, and other related materials. * Work in collaboration with other full-time instructors in coordinating curriculum and mentoring adjunct faculty in these courses. * Participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLO) and Program Level Outcomes (PLO). * Actively participate in department/school meetings and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies; participate in college governance and decision-making. * Participate in college-wide committee work and collegial governance. * Maintain current knowledge and skills in Mathematics. * Maintain effective communication with peers, staff, students, and administrators. * Teaching assignments may include evening and weekend hours, either in-person or online, as well as off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies. * Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Math and Science. Candidates must possess: a commitment to encouragement of learning and an enthusiastic attitude toward student learning; sensitivity to students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds who may have wide ranges of abilities. AND Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics OR Bachelor's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics AND a Master's degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education OR the equivalent If you do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly as stated above, you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of application. All degrees must be from accredited institutions. * Understand and practice of addressing student equity through best-practice teaching methodologies. * Use computers, multimedia, course-management software, and other interactive technologies as teaching and learning tools. * Demonstrate ability to utilize multiple teaching methods/strategies needed to address the diverse learning styles/need of students including integration of interactive technologies to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving strategies. * Possess a commitment to teaching and learning and provide a supportive learning environment to enhance student success and completion. * Possess a willingness to take initiative in co-curricular activities, outreach and recruitment efforts, special events, and school projects. * Possess a willingness to participate in shared/participatory governance of the Division and the College. * Demonstrate an ability to self-evaluate and effect change for personal growth and improvement, as well as an ability to accept constructive feedback and effect change appropriately and participate in professional growth and development activities and lifelong learning. * WORK ENVIROMENT: The recommended candidate(s) will work in a small office or larger room with multiple people, in a primarily sedentary nature, either sitting or standing. This role will require significant technology use, including long periods of looking at technology screens and entering information using a keyboard and/or mouse. Interruptions are likely in large room settings and in small office settings. Frequent use of online meetings using Zoom or Microsoft Teams with webcam on. Phone and email will be required to communicate with all campus communities.
