SUMMARY: The Tutor is responsible for assisting students in improving academic achievement through mentoring student success by utilizing library, flight center, and academic resources. Ensure availability to student needs during campus hours. Provide individual and small group tutoring to students in the LRC, as needed.

REASONING ABILITY:
Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Experience in communicating with all socio-economic levels. Working knowledge of MS Office, internet and Web searching and CAU learning resources: LIRN databases and LRC Online.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a professional level classification responsible for teaching grades and subjects as
assigned, excluding STEM and Special or Gifted Education. Provides motivation; establishes
rapport with students; teaches District-approved curriculum; instructs students in basic subjectmatter and citizenship; develops lesson plans and instructional materials; provides individual and group instruction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the District's needs.
* In-person attendance is an essential function of this classification unless assigned to virtual school
* Based upon assignment, prepares and delivers instruction appropriate to the student
population including differentiated curriculum to address learning styles, behavior
problems, and students with special needs; determines instruction techniques, strategies,
and methods; schedules activities;
* Develops and implements curriculum including determination of instructional resource use and delivery; and/or functions as a Teacher Specialist serving as a dedicated resource for addressing specialized needs in areas such as math, literacy, technology, prevention,
curriculum, and library management;
* Based upon assignment, develops specialized curriculum across the District and/or plans
for differentiated curriculum for and instruction of special needs students across content
areas including making adaptations and determining instructional strategies with
collaboration of other teachers, sign language, and other interpreters, administrators and
allied health providers; and writes and modifies curriculum content within the context of
both classroom teaching and dedicated services provided by Teacher Specialists;
* As assigned, develops, reviews, revises and implements Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.s);
evaluates student behavior and performance including attendance and other record
keeping; supervises students in school settings and provides feedback to parents,
counselors, administrators, and health providers; plans and shares curriculum; and designs
and delivers in-service training;
* As assigned, performs clerical duties such as copying, cutting, laminating, filing, word
processing, data entry, and ordering and delivering materials and assists with hygiene
needs of students;
* As assigned, prepares classrooms and other educational settings for instruction and
coaching including creating bulletin boards, storing materials and disassembling and
cleaning as necessary; coordinates technology and equipment including troubleshooting
problems and cleaning equipment; and prepares brochures and other written material to
support program implementation, student learning and/or staff development;
* As assigned, reviews and researches curricula; designed staff development programs;
develops and manages budgets and expenditures; and coordinates special peer
coaching and mentoring programs;
* As assigned, participates in school and learning-related extracurricular activities; assists in
the review, adoption and maintenance of District materials; trains staff on the use of
programs, models, technologies, and other materials; and coordinates career ladder
programs and evaluation; and,
* Performs related work as assigned.

Position Overview
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing classroom coverage for a teacher who is absent for an extended period
of time or for a position that is vacant. The Substitute Teacher works the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher
including but not limited to assigned duties within the work day. The day-to-day can vary from teaching opportunities to
roles in the front office administration, clerical work, test proctoring and supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Maintains the confidentiality of student and school personnel information in accordance with District policy an law.
Follows District policy for maintaining a professional demeanor and appearance as an example to students.
Maintains a positive learning environment and ensures classroom procedures that fosters a safe and respectful climate for all students and staff.
Ensures that learning is appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Ensures the adequate supervision to assure the health, welfare and safety of all students.
Follows, participates and leads students in all safety and evacuation drills and events.
Reports to front office upon arrival at school and secures substitute identification, credentials and keys; checks mailbox of absent teacher in an effort to know of any issues of immediate import or attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures from the front office personnel, if necessary.
Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
Consults and collaborate with peer teachers to seek information or clarification regarding attendance procedures, lesson objectives, daily schedule, materials and equipment location, usage and daily duties.
Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner, which motivates students to learn and participate and organizes and groups students for effective instruction.
Attends to all non-teaching duties as assigned (i.e. lunch duty, recess duty, crosswalk duty, etc.).
Ensure a sustainable relationship with parents, pupils, school personnel and members of the public by communicating in a confidential, polite and refined manner.
Participates in administering testing in accordance with District and school procedures.
Collects and places students' work, assignments in storage according to regular teacher's and/or Principal directions.
Follows all dismissal procedures, ensures that all instructional materials and classroom equipment are in orderly condition, and prepares a daily substitute report concerning progress and issues of note for the regular classroom teacher before leaving the building.
Returns substitute identification, credentials and keys to the main office before signing out for the day.
Performs other assigned and related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/district or state policies and practices.
Licenses or Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Education preferred
A valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
A valid Arizona Substitute Teacher Certificate
Experience
Experience teaching or completion of appropriate substitute teaching training program preferred
Experience working with or volunteering in a school setting preferred
Enrolled in a teacher preparation program

Working Environment
The working environment is in person in a normal school setting; the noise level ranges from quiet to loud, but is usually moderate.
The playground setting can include exposure to dirt, dust and extreme seasonal temperatures.
Able to adjust the daily schedule based on student and school needs.
Time Commitment/Payout Information
Substitutes are required to work the full work day, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. When working a half day, daily substitutes may be excused early at the discretion of the school Principal.
Substitutes are required to sign and submit a timesheet to the front office Administrative Assistant in order to receive pay for days subbed. Always review your timesheet for accuracy prior to signing.
Substitutes are not eligible for work beyond/overtime unless approved in advance by the school Principal.
