Sign-on Bonus Available! Provides surgical technology to direct and indirect care and service. Assist surgeon, performs operative/invasive procedures. Serves as a resource to other technologist, trains new technologist, trains students and functions as an informal lead technologist role as needed. Mentoring and utilizing the additional education gained through certification will be used to assist peers, perform more efficiently and raise performance.

Responsibilities
Preparation for surgeon specific operative/invasive procedures that's timely, accurate effective and efficient.
Instruments equipment and suture are appropriate, complete and functional.
Sets up sterile field and is scrubbed prior to patent entering the room
Sets up case so that another can step into an organized back table and mayo.
Have appropriate “have available” items.
Uses resources wisely, avoids unnecessary opening.
Motions are fluid and not redundant.
Set up time for a variety of case types is within acceptable range.
Aware of and is prepared for case needs, i.e. two mayo's.
Collaborates with surgeon prior to case and adjusts as necessary.
Precept surgical techs and RNs to prepare for surgeon specific procedures
Scrubs on simple to complex procedures for a variety of specialties.
Able to “run mayo” independently.
Aware of surgeon's techniques and preferences.
Adapts style to match surgeon and procedures.
Confident and competent during routine and emergency procedures.
Is prepared for sequencing, i.e. clamp, cut, tie.

Job Summary:
The Surgical Technologist Certified functions under the direction of the registered professional nurse. Assists the health care team in providing safe, age appropriate and culturally aware patient care. He/she has knowledge, skill and ability to perform duties within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases (with an expectation on occasion to work above this level as cases require) as defined by the scope of anatomy, equipment and instrumentation of the case and anticipates the needs of the surgeon and other members of the healthcare team.
DEFINITION:
Certified Surgical Technologist required to have a certificate or associate's degree from a community college or a technical school and have passed the a competency examination through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or National Center for Competency Testing
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Knowledge, skill and ability of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon and other members of the healthcare team within moderate to high difficulty surgical cases as defined by the scope of anatomy, equipment, and instrumentation of the case
* Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure which includes review and utilization of appropriate preference card.
* Assists with room set-up to include opening of sterile supplies.
* Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medication/solutions needed for procedure in an accurate, aseptically prioritized, and timely manner, including reviewing and utilizing appropriate preference cards
* Performs appropriate surgical counts with circulator.
* Actively participates in the procedure pause/time-out.
* Scrubs, gowns, and gloves; Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
* Assists in draping sterile field.
* Passes instruments to surgeon during the procedure. Maintains an organized back table and operative field. Able to anticipate and offer surgeon suggestions throughout the procedure for facilitating cases
* Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.
* Prepares sterile dressings.
* Actively participates in post procedure pause which includes accounting for proper handling of the specimens.
* Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization, taking initiative to inform SPD of critical need instrument
* Applies principles of asepsis to ensure the prevention of infection and safety of patients and employees
* Prepares case carts according to procedure and preference cards. Reviews surgical schedule and assists clinical coordinator with preparation for future cases
* Observes patients condition and immediately reports any changes or significant findings to the physician and Registered Nurse.
* Proactively plans for the next steps in the progression of procedure as needed, demonstrating an ability to adjust without faltering when an emergency arises
* Performs with the knowledge, skill, and ability within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases
* Prepares OR room and other areas (as needed) for receiving patients, which includes stocking, cleaning equipment or storage areas, turns OR room over, orders/requests supplies, preparing instruments for future procedures, notification of specialty staff regarding needed instrumentation or equipment.
* Maintains a financial stewardship related to supplies and equipment, only opening required supplies until requested by the surgeon
Assists the health care team in providing safe, age appropriate and culturally aware patient care
* Provides relationship-based patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g. age, gender, disease, etc) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity under supervision of the registered nurse
* Always partners with the patient by verifying procedure and conducting relief bedside shift report.
* Practices using current clinical practice standards under the supervision of the registered nurse

Bases nursing care on protocol in place for management of each patient. Correctly carries out the physicians plan of care. Accurately documents in the emr. Documents care according to policy and procedure. Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach when appropriate. Performs all necessary procedures correctly. Utilizes available teaching plans in addressing patient teaching needs. Accurately calculates and administers medications. Initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations.
Evaluation: standard of performance: Evaluates assessment methods, plan of care, and patients response to treatment. Participates in unit quality assurance activities.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience.
One (1) year of current ED experience or successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente New Grad Internship Program in the ED.

Who We Are: Lutheran Hospital is a community-based, acute-care hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. It includes Lutheran Hospice Center and Lutheran Spine Center at Denver West.
Lutheran Hospital began in 1905 as the Evangelical Lutheran Sanitarium, a tent colony for tuberculosis patients. As medical advances diminished the demand for tuberculosis treatment, community leaders decided the center should meet a new need. Community-based Lutheran Hospital, a not-for-profit, general medical facility located on a 100-acre campus, opened its doors in 1961.
Our new Lutheran Hospital campus at Clear Crossing in Wheat Ridge opened its doors on August 3rd. Construction on the six-story replacement hospital started in 2021 and provides a state-of-the-art care site in the West Denver suburbs.
Essential Functions:
Maintains up-to-date licensure and certifications required for position.
Provides procedural assistance as a circulating tech, scrub tech, or monitoring tech, according to Angio lab policies and procedures and Scope of Practice documents.
Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.
Adheres to radiation safety guidelines and maintains a safe working environment for patients and staff.
Develops specific knowledge about invasive, diagnostic, and interventional supplies, appropriate indications and applications, and proper use and deployment techniques.
Follows appropriate protocol for medical necessity, coding and charging, obtaining necessary consents, maintaining applicable QC (Quality Control) programs, and reporting any equipment failures or problems.
Provides appropriate patient education, ensures patient comfort, and address patient and/or family concerns.
Keeps accurate records of patient information, procedures performed, and any adverse reactions or incidents.
Coordinates patient care and communicates pertinent information to other patient care providers following procedure.
At the end of the procedure, suture the sheath in place, or remove the sheath and apply pressure to obtain hemostasis.
Performs advanced interventional procedures including ablation procedures, stents, thrombectomy, embolization.
Orient new angio staff, provide teaching, coaching, mentoring and provide direct supervision as a defined preceptor.
Proctors other staff including specialized equipment and procedural techniques.
