Built in 1927 by local owners, the Bergonian (now the Mayflower Park Hotel) was one of Seattle’s finest hotels, and now 94 years later, it is still locally owned and is still an important part of our community.
The Mayflower Park Hotel is the oldest continuously run hotel in downtown Seattle. Its first incarnation was as the Bergonian, which opened with 240 rooms in 1927 after $750,000 and six months of construction.

In September 1941, The Mayflower Hotel hosted the retailers for Defense Week and was one of 6,000 hotels across the country to sell the stamps.
The acoustics in The Mayflower’s Chinese Room played a trick on Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1945.
Birney Dempey, who currently owns the hotel with his wife Marie, formed a limited partnership, purchased the hotel and renaming the hotel the Mayflower in 1974.
An extensive renovation was undertaken, including the addition of the 4th Avenue entrance and in 1988 with the opening of the neighboring Westlake Center, the Mayflower accelerated into one of Seattle’s most revered hotels.
Later renamed the Cabinet Room, Ronald Reagan’s former aides and presidential library volunteers gather here in 2004 following his death to prepare and distribute the 1,000 funeral invitations that Nancy Reagan has asked to be sent to family and friends.
