Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the Application Manager, is responsible for the overall planning, management, and completion of IT projects for specific business units and systems. Uses project management skills to assign project roles, identify resource requirements, meet training needs, define project deliverables, provide customer satisfaction and reporting structures and ensure quality of projects.
If required, manages a team of in-house resources for analysis and design. Work with vendor/partners with on-shore and off-shore resources to develop and test systems. Project Managers may be focused on customer or functional program areas where specific subject matter expertise will be important.
Project Planning - 40%
Works with customers to develop project scope of work documents and project work plans using MS Project.
Creates project plans that include an analysis of benefit, cost, work schedule and any related risks.
Identifies the technical approach to be used on a given project and manages the system development process.
Documents opportunities to integrate systems and resources to fulfill project requirements.
Project Management - 35%
Provide leadership and clear demonstration of understanding of system development and maintenance of systems, including technology standards, application of methodology, scope definition and management, project planning and tracking, coordination of all necessary groups, adherence to coding standards and technology strategy.
Scheduling/ Communication - 25%
Assigns, schedules, trains, reviews, and monitors project work to ensure that progress is within expected guidelines and is completed on time and within budget.
Ensures effective communications and relationships between customers and project team members are maintained.
Acts as key liaison and coordinator between head office and MNAO delivery teams
Qualifications and Other Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information System, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
Minimum of five (5) years' experience managing the implementation and support of information technology projects.
Experience working with senior stakeholders and non-technical business leaders.
Proven track record in the following:
Ability to produce timely deliverables and manage multiple and shifting priorities in a dynamic environment with sound judgment and clear reasoning.
Preferred but not required:
IT support experience in the automotive industry.
Training/Certification:
Project Management certification preferred, but not required.
Change Management certification (e.g., Prosci) a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of IT infrastructure, application development and data, and how it relates to enabling the business strategy.
Understanding of IT, including application development and infrastructure management concepts.
Ability to analyze user specifications, logically plan, coordinate, develop and test new or existing computer programs to resolve problems or enhance systems.
Ability to independently organize work processes, set priorities and make decisions on advanced assignments.
Must be analytical and a problem solver with the ability to identify problems and/or cause-effect relationships; identify key issues; secure relevant information from all appropriate sources; identify possible root causes of problems and develop and implement corrective actions for resolution.
Ability to work collaboratively with others to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions.

Reasonable knowledge of current hardware and software technologies and uses.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential. Must be able to establish a course of action for self and others/department to accomplish specific goals; must plan and prioritize proper assignments of personnel and/or appropriate allocation of resources.

The Role
The AV Safety Strategy and Assessment team is seeking a technical leader with extensive experience in the full end to end development lifecycle for autonomous vehicle behaviors driven by artificial intelligence & machine learning models. As the AV Behavior and AI Safety Principal Engineer, you will need to stay current on industry best practices and standards and guide the development of GM's AV Behavior Validation and AI safety strategy. We are seeking an experienced **Staff Systems Engineer** to lead systems engineering efforts for our embedded AV/ADAS platform. You will be responsible for defining and managing system-level requirements and architectures, optimizing resource allocation across computational and networking subsystems, and working closely with software and hardware teams to ensure seamless integration of vehicle platform components. This role is highly collaborative, strategic, and technical, influencing platform roadmaps and long-term technical direction.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead the end-to-end systems engineering for embedded autonomous vehicle (AV) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) platforms.
+ Define, document, and manage system-level requirements, ensuring traceability and alignment with product and safety goals.
+ Develop and maintain system architecture, balancing trade-offs in compute resources (CPU, GPU, NPU), memory (RAM), and communication bandwidth (Ethernet).
+ Perform system resource allocation, profiling, and optimization to meet performance, power, latency, and reliability targets.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally with software architecture, firmware, hardware, validation, and vehicle integration teams to ensure cohesive system design and implementation.
+ Drive technical roadmap planning and contribute to strategic decisions on future platform capabilities and scalability.
+ Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies related to system integration and performance.
+ Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation within the team.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Master's or PhD preferred.
+ Minimum 8+ years of systems engineering experience, ideally within embedded systems, automotive, robotics, or related industries.
+ Proven track record of leading system architecture design and resource allocation for complex embedded platforms.
+ Deep understanding of AV/ADAS domain including embedded computing platforms, sensor integration, and real-time constraints.
+ Strong expertise in system performance analysis and optimization, including CPU/GPU/NPU architectures, memory hierarchies, and network bandwidth management.
+ Experience with platform systems engineering: device power management, I/O, internal & external communication
+ Experience with edge compute SoC and MCU architectures.
+ Hands-on experience with system modeling, simulation tools, and requirements management frameworks.
+ Experience working with Ethernet-based automotive networks (e.g., Automotive Ethernet, TSN).
+ Familiarity with safety standards and practices (ISO 26262, ASPICE) is a plus.
+ Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams.
+ Proven ability to navigate and solve problems characterized by high ambiguity
Preferred Qualifications
+ Advanced degree (MS or PhD) with a focus on embedded systems, systems engineering, or related fields.
+ Experience with embedded Linux or RTOS environments in automotive or robotics applications.
+ Knowledge of AV software stacks, middleware, and sensor data processing pipelines.
