MBH Architects company history timeline

1990

In early 1990, Michael Neumann of On Lok discovered a diamond in the rough: the abandoned Pacific Telephone building located at the corner of Bush and Larkin Streets in San Francisco.

1997

The building is now known as Harbor Lofts and MBH received a Gold Nugget Award for Award of Merit, Adaptive Reuse in 1997 for the conversion.

2000

In June 2000 the company paid a large fine to the Business Software Alliance for using a quantity of unlicensed software.

2001

The company has specialized in retail, hospitality, and high-density residential design, and its list of clients includes Adidas, Estée Lauder, Kmart, Rite Aid, Starbucks, and Walgreens. Its first retail work was commissioned by Gap and by 2001 the company had designed some 300 Gap's Old Navy stores.

2005

In 2005 the company won the Structural Ingenuity category at the annual Canstruction event with a model of the Pantheon made from 3,648 tin cans.

2006

In 2006, MBH Architects was tapped to design the LeRoy Neiman Arts Studio at Pier 9 in San Francisco.

2007

In 2007 the company was a consultant for commercial architecture for the Sonoma Mountain Village Rohnert Park redevelopment.

2017

In 2017, MBH expanded its East Coast presence with the acquisition of New York-based Anderson Architects.

2018

Employees from Hyphen’s Madrid office and MBH’s Alameda office exchanged places for the month of May 2018.

On June 4, 2018 joined the MBH family, filling the Housing Studio with experience and wisdom.

2021

In March 2021, Urban Confluence Silicon Valley announced Breeze of Innovation as the winner of the worldwide open ideas competition for an iconic landmark in Silicon Valley.
