Upon passing the NAPLEX/MPJE, it would transition to a pharmacist position. This position presents an opportunity to work in an inpatient pharmacy setting that provides services to a variety of patient populations. The pharmacy services our ICU, general medical/surgical floors, emergency room, OB/GYN unit, pediatric unit, surgery center, inpatient rehab, outpatient infusion, outpatient oncology, and physician residency program. Our pharmacy team has built a favorable reputation, and physicians/residents/nurses are very accepting of our recommendations and often look for our recommendations. Being a small-mid size hospital, we will occasionally work with physicians to create protocols for special cases, such as building and implementing a penicillin de-sensitization protocol, among various other projects. This position blends the roles of traditional staff pharmacists and clinical pharmacists. Our clinical program is built on antimicrobial, opioid, and anticoagulation stewardship, with a heavy focus on antimicrobial stewardship. The clinical aspects of our antimicrobial stewardship program are to ensure appropriateness of antibiotic selection based on diagnosis/patient-specific factors, evaluating cultures and looking for de-escalation opportunities, monitoring patient's response to determine need for escalation or de-escalation, looking for opportunities for IV to PO switches, and establishing length of antibiotic therapy. Our clinical software continuously searches for potential interventions that prompt us to look at patients' charts to recommend a change, if needed. In addition, the clinical software looks for various lab abnormalities that may need addressed. This would be a dayshift position. Our shifts are typically 8 hours during the week with a mix of mornings/evenings, and 12 hours on the weekend, typically working every 4 th -5 th weekend. It averages 40 hours/week. We have a fixed rotating schedule, allowing you to plan out months in advance. The schedule can be relatively flexible as we occasionally swap shifts to work around things going on outside of work.
