Through training opportunities scheduled during the work day, you'll have access to sessions with experienced journalists and learn about topics such as reporting and writing news stories, researching public documents, working on deadlines, and understanding libel law. The Herald intern will work with a mentor and can expect regular feedback and coaching from their editor. We are committed, across our newsroom, to helping interns develop as journalists. About The Herald: Join the newsroom that held city, county, and state officials accountable - along with the owner of the Carolina Panthers - when the massive deal to bring the team's headquarters to Rock Hill, S.C. went belly-up even after construction was underway. The Herald staff puts a premium on breaking stories first, telling the stories that define the region and helping readers understand the complexities brought on by rapid growth. This internship requires the reporter to work closely with editors of the Charlotte Observer, so interns should be prepared to live within proximity of the Observer newsroom and the York County communities. Previous experience reporting and/or producing for a student or professional news publication is preferred. Qualifications include: A collaborative work ethic and a strong desire to learn. Deep curiosity and a drive to find the truth. Solid news judgment, accuracy, and high ethical standards. Understanding of the professional use of social media in news-gathering and audience development. A quick study of technology and tools used in news-gathering. Experience working at a college publication, print or online, or another news outlet. To apply: Please upload a persuasive cover letter, resume, and 3-5 samples of your best news-related work. Incomplete applications may not be given full consideration. Deadline: 5p.m. EDT on Dec. 5, 2025, but we encourage you to apply early. We believe in putting our customers first, engaging with respect and integrity and fulfilling our mission with passion. The first Music & Arts was located in a small house in Bethesda, MD and run by founder Benjamin O'Brien. When Music & Arts opened its doors in 1952, we offered printed music, music lessons, dance lessons, and art supplies. Ben decided shortly after opening his business that he wanted to focus on music to better serve his customers -- a decision that remains intact to this day. Since the 1990's, Music & Arts has expanded nationwide through organic growth and a series of acquisitions and mergers with other music dealers. In 2005, Music & Arts joined forces with American Music to become the largest band and orchestra instrument retailer in the United States. Based in Frederick, MD, Music & Arts is now part of the Guitar Center enterprise and comprises 225+ retail stores, 200+ educational representatives, and 250+ affiliate locations. Why Music & Arts? Here's just some of the rewards: Pay Rate: $21.57/hr Non-Teaching Rate + $10-21.50/hr Teaching Rate depending on background and experience.
