McCormick Ranch company history timeline
In 1971 Guy Stillman chartered the Scottsdale Railroad & Mechanical Society as part of the agreement with the city of Scottsdale to establish a Railroad Park on the donated land.
McCormick Ranch Golf Club was designed by Desmond Muirhead and opened in 1972 and the courses and dining facilities have been open to the public ever since.
Fowler McCormick, 20 years Anne’s junior, died in 1973.
Since 1974, the rail park has become a living memorial to railroading history, recognized nationally and internationally as one of Scottsdale’s and the state’s most popular attractions.
Residents celebrated the grand opening of the city of Scottsdale’s McCormick Railroad Park on Saturday, October 4, 1975 with free train rides, games, music and a Wild West Shootout.
Opened in 1976 as the Scottsdale Conference Center, the Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch was the first conference resort in the country.
Each February, the park became a mecca for the nation’s Arabian breeders growing from 200 entries to more than 1,000 until 1978 when developers decided to build single family homes.
In 1979 Edward Pincus purchased McCormick Ranch Golf Club, and to this day, it has remained a family-owned and operated business.
A columnist and staff writer for the Scottsdale Progress and later the Scottsdale Tribune newspapers for 21 years, she has been a correspondent for the Arizona Republic/Scottsdale Republic since 2001.
