McGill Manufacturing Co Inc company history timeline

1905

McGill Manufacturing Company, Inc., was founded near t he turn of the century by the late James H. McGill in Chicago and moved to Valparaiso in 1905.

1905 - Established Crescent Company

1910

Along the way, McGill acquired a nonferrous foundry which in 1910 was housed in a separate building on north Lafayette Street to produce permanent mold, sand, and hydra ulic pressure castings of aluminum bronze.

In 1910 the company was changed to McGill Manufacturing Company and the McGill® LEVOLIER® pull switch was developed.

1919

The father, Charles began his career as a tool and die maker for the McGill Manufacturing company here, in 1919, accruing 27 years service at the local bearing and electrical firm.

1920

In the early 1920's the McGill Metal Company was formed and made cast bronze precision ball, retainers for the old Super Strom ball bearings which were used extenisitvely in machine tools and in early custom-built automobiles.

1924

In 1924 Strom sold the bearings business, and a group of ex-Strom employees moved to Valparaiso.

1925

1925 - Formed Bearing business unit

1926

The initial production of bearings bore the Shubert name, but in late 1926 all bearings produced were marketed under the McGill Manufacturing Company name.

1931

In 1931 the M ulTIROL bearing, the firs t self-contained f ull two needle coller bearings was introduced and patented.

1935

The first roller bearing cam follower was invented in 1935, and the design's now well known trademark became associated with the company's CAMROL® bearings offering.

1945

The art of tool and die making was not new to the Thorgrens when they opened their first shop in a double garage behind the home of Robert, at 900 Oak street, in 1945.

Today, from a beginning in 1945 with only spare time help, the firm provides a living for 20 employees, all experts in the art of nylon injection molding.

1950

First, let me explain that my first Maxinkuckee experiences began in about 1950.

1951

1952

THIS MODERN, 110x40 foot cement block building was built by the Thorgren Tool and Molding company in 1952 moving from a double garage structure located in the rear of Robert Thorgren’s home at 900 Oak street.

1953

In 1953, Thorgren and his sons built the modern 110 by 40 foot building they now occupy on Evans avenue, west of Roosevelt road, containing 4,400 square feet of space.

1955

1956

1956 - Invented GUIDEROL Needle Bearings

1957

Franz purschased the farm of 187 acres in 1957 when he moved to Culver from Crown Point.

1965

T h e r e are many reasons to believe that growth to date is justa beginning - -THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1965

1965 negotiations were made for a factory finally came to Culver - Mc Gills Manufacturing Inc. they manufatured precision ball & roller bearings, specially engineered needle, roller & ball bearings.

1967

1967 - Invented SPHERE-ROL Spherical Bearings

1984

1984 - Metric Cam Followers

1985

The plant will close no later than July 31. - 5 June 1985 Culver Citizen.

1990

Emerson bought McGill in 1990, and McGill/EPT in Valparaiso is the headquarters of Emerson Power Transmission Division.

In 1990, the McGill Manufacturing Company was acquired by Emerson Electric Company and became part of Emerson Power Transmission Corporation.

1990 - Became a Partner of Power Transmission Solutions

2015

In 2015, Emerson Power Transmission Corporation (also known as Power Transmission Solutions) was acquired by Regal Beloit Corporation.
