A hybrid service writer and diesel mechanic role combines the duties of customer service and vehicle repair into a single role. This position requires a professional with a dual skill set: excellent communication and customer-facing skills, along with a deep mechanical and electrical knowledge of diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicles.
Service Writer Responsibilities Include:
Greet customers, listen to their descriptions of vehicle problems, and ask probing questions to diagnose issues
Translate customer concerns and symptoms into detailed, accurate repair orders for the shop's records
Provide comprehensive and transparent cost estimates for parts and labor, and obtain customer authorization before beginning repairs
Communicate proactively with customers throughout the repair process, providing updates on progress, explaining complex repairs in simple terms, and notifying them of any changes to the estimate or timeline
Process invoices, handle billing, and ensure all warranty paperwork is completed correctly
Schedule service appointments and manage the shop's workflow to ensure efficient operations

Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities Include:
Perform diagnostic tests using specialized software and tools to identify mechanical and electrical problems in diesel engines, transmissions, and other vehicle systems
Conduct thorough inspections and follow a diagnostic checklist to ensure all critical parts of heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, or other diesel-powered machinery are examined
Perform preventative and routine maintenance, including oil changes, fluid level checks, wheel balancing, and tire rotation
Repair or replace faulty components, such as engines, brake systems, steering mechanisms, and electrical systems, using hand and power tools
Perform welding and driveline repairs (requires hot work awareness)
Test-drive vehicles after repairs to ensure they operate correctly and have been fixed to standard
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and disposal procedures
Service Writer/Diesel Mechanic Candidates Will Have:

The ICU RN's are required to have a wide array of knowledge, skill and ability to competently and safely provide critical care to our patients. Frequent ongoing education, new skill acquisition and skill validation are provided and supported by an experienced ICU CNS for new and experienced ICU nurses. Newly hired RN's will have between 2-14 weeks of orientation depending on prior experience. Our preceptors are purposely selected for their teaching ability and formally trained to meet the training needs of new staff. Specific attention is provided for new graduate ICU RN's as they participate in our Vizient AACN Nurse Residency Program and AACN's essentials of Critical Care Orientation online education. Experienced RN's are encouraged and supported with educational and financial assistance to achieve critical care certification.
ICU staff are supported by an interdisciplinary care team which in part includes unit based respiratory, physical, speech and occupational therapists. Interpreter, nutrition, palliative, chaplaincy and ethical services are readily available as well. Our ICU has onsite and eICU pulmonary critical care intensivists and their team of physician extenders 24/7. Physician lead, nurse driven interdisciplinary rounds are held daily for continuity of care and to address nursing's concerns or questions. City/State Norfolk, VA Work Shift Third (Nights) Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for our Vascular Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - 9K Hours: Full Time (36 hr/week)
Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty area and provides clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in a department. Under the direction of the department manager leads safety and quality initiatives, focuses on and simplifies workflow, and contributes to the development of staff. Increase staff satisfaction and promotes excellent (Gold Standard) customer service.
What we are:
9 Kaufman is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit that specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry and renal/pancreas transplant patients. 9 Kaufman is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). Staffing is comprised of RNs, LPNs, NCPs (nursing care partners) and UAs (unit ambassadors) and CSAs (clinical support associates).
What we do:
Some of 9 Kaufman's vascular surgeries include aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries and amputations. 9 Kaufman is an extension of the renal/pancreas transplant team to include the outpatient transplant center and all the nurses on 9 Kaufman are specially trained and can sit for the PCCN certification which we will help you obtain. All the beds on 9 Kaufman are monitored beds. 9 Kaufman cares for a variety of patients with telemetry needs, providing an environment conducive to extensive learning and skill development. You will be exposed to many types of patients on 9 Kaufman aiding in your ability to provide great care to anyone that chose Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to meet their healthcare needs.
Nurse to patient ratio on 9 Kaufman is 1:4.
Education
Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN Required
Certification/Licensure
Registered nursing License (Required)
BLS required within 90 days of hire
