We are seeking a skilled Associate ElectricalEngineer to join our expanding Engineering and Design division in Seattle. Team Leadership & Development

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience required.
* Professional Engineer registration and ability to acquire licensure in additional states required.
* Experience in the design and construction of commercial and light industrial electrical systems, emergency power systems, low voltage systems, and medium-voltage campus distribution systems.
* Ability to evaluate power systems and perform studies for arc flash, short circuit current, coordination, underground cable thermals, grounding, and load flow analysis.
* Medium-Voltage (15 kV and below) design experience required, protective relaying experience preferred.

The pay range for this position is $120,510 - $204,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.

This Senior Design Engineer (SDE) role is a lead member of the core team for each Broadcast/ Media project, with an emphasis on the design and implementation of Master Control and production systems employing SMPTE ST-2110 and advanced playout and automation systems. The SDE provides direction and oversight through the project life cycle from sales concept to design development, construction drawings to implementation support. As the technical authority on a project team, the SDE is instrumental in the determination and execution of client and system requirements and will collaborate with SME (Subject Matter Expert) teams as required. The SDE is also responsible for mentoring other design engineers on the project team. Reporting to a Regional Director of Engineering the SDE's project assignments are determined by Engineering and Technical Operations Leadership based on enterprise‑wide demands, capabilities and availability.
NOTE - while this is a virtual position day to day, it does involve frequent onsite presence at customer sites concentrated in the Bay Area of California. As such, residing in (or a willingness to relocate to) the San Francisco Bay area of California is a requirement for this job. What You'll Do

Complexity
The Senior Design Engineer works with the Regional Engineering Director and the Technical Operations Directors on resource assignments. This role is primarily billable in a post‑sales capacity, though there are times when the SDE will work on pre‑sales estimation and design efforts.
Decision Making Authority
As the final sign off on project bill of materials prior to purchasing, the SDE is responsible for vetting products and making detailed equipment decisions. As the technical leader on a project, the SDE has the authority to recommend direction on scope changes and programming and commissioning activities. The SDE will also be responsible for approving drawing packages being done by other design engineers as well as supervising them in their work.
Physical Working Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. Work will normally be performed within normal office conditions and/or home office depending on location of SDE. On occasions the employee may be exposed to construction site conditions. Employee will be responsible for their safety while on job sites and to comply with all safety regulations in place by the GC. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites. The employee can typically spend at least 50% of their time on their feet and be required to move around the construction site. The individual is regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment and controls required for SI installation projects. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth vision.
Travel
Occasional travel by car and occasional airplane trips are required. Employee must possess a valid driver's license in their state of residence. Employee will be required to use their own vehicle and will be reimbursed for mileage at the current corporate rate. Local travel to job sites (within a 2 hour driving distance each way) will make up 90% usually but remote travel can be up to 30% of the job at times.

Requirements

The Opportunity with McKinstry
We're looking for an experienced Electrical Project Engineer II to join our growing Engineering and Design team in Spokane, WA. In this role, you'll play a key part in supporting our Distributed Energy Resources (DER) clients, working alongside internal partners and external stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions and ensure successful project outcomes. Key responsibilities include:
Project Management
* Documents project correspondence, issues, decisions and directions.
* Learns and follows McKinstry Engineering standards and procedures.
* Contributes to tasks on multiple projects and timelines concurrently.
* Manages own workload to deliver assigned tasks on time and in budget.
* Provides engineering analysis to support sales and early design efforts.
Design
* Competent in electrical systems design, including load calculations, fault current calculations, solar PV design, general power design (stringing, DC to AC ratios, interconnection code compliance, ect.), general power distribution design and multi-discipline coordination.
* Understanding of medium voltage distribution systems, including feeder and transformer sizing, witching and protection calculations.
* Performs and shares knowledge in engineering calculations, design, and drafting tasks.
* Produces design drawings and building information models for construction.
* Pursues an understanding of the technical foundation of design activities and decisions.
* Performs coordination with internal team members and supports coordination with external team members.
* Identifies opportunities for process and technology improvements.
* Investigates, evaluates, and troubleshoots existing systems.
Other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
* Must have demonstrated proficiency for all responsibilities of a Project Engineer I.
* Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline required or equivalent work experience required.
* Three (3) years of experience in AutoCAD and Revit modeling preferred.
* Three (3) years of experience in engineering design or related field is preferred. Onsite construction experience considered and welcome.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
* Engineering in Training Certificate preferred.

The pay range for this position is $36.26 - $51.14 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
