The Opportunity with McKinstry
McKinstry is seeking a Senior VDC Project Manager in Seattle, WA. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and detailing activities across assigned detailing projects within the various construction related lines of business. This role manages the scope, schedule, budget and information transfer of virtual design efforts, ensuring seamless integration between detailing, pre-con, engineering, fabrication, and construction teams. Acting as the subject matter expert (SME) for BIM processes and tools, the VDC Project Manager provides leadership in coordination, technology implementation, and communication with both internal teams and external project stakeholders. Additional responsibilities may include:
* Assist with the development and management of the Detailing Approach to clearly define modeling scope, deliverables, and workflows aligned with project goals.
* Participate in the multi-trade coordination efforts, providing schedule insights and acting as the project BIM representative.
* Develop and maintain project detailing schedules that align with construction sequencing, fabrication deadlines, and coordination milestones.
* Monitor detailing budgets, track labor hours, and assist with manpower planning to allocate detailing resources efficiently to meet project demands and profitability targets.
* Serve as the main liaison between detailing teams, project managers, and clients to ensure clear communication and model-driven decision-making.
* Provide digital administrative support to ensure document control platforms (ACC, Procure, Bluebeam, Stratus, etc.) are operational, information is current, and team members can access all needed information to perform their duties to the highest level of efficiency.
* Implement and improve digital tools, workflows, and processes that enhance coordination, prefabrication, and field integration in collaboration with the broader Construction Technology teams.
* Oversee the production, review, and submission of model-based drawings and deliverables in compliance with internal standards and project requirements.
* Manage 3rd party project integrations when required for detailing support and content creation.
* Evaluate, integrate, and communicate all changes related to scope, schedule and/or budget, managing their cost and schedule impacts in coordination with the project team.
* Finalize as-built models, document lessons learned, and drive ongoing improvements in VDC practices for future projects.
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
* Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* 5+ years of experience in BIM/VDC project management within the commercial MEP construction industry.
* Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC); familiarity with tools such as Revizto is a plus.
* Strong understanding of MEP systems, fabrication workflows, and construction sequencing.
* Proven experience managing detailing budgets, schedules, and cross-functional coordination.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities.
* Deep understanding of BIM workflows, model coordination, and data management.
* Skilled in schedule, scope, and cost control specific to VDC deliverables.
* Effective at leading diverse technical teams and maintaining clear communication across disciplines.

The pay range for this position is $84,240 - $145,200 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.

Key Responsibilities:
Pursuit Phase - Alternative Delivery & Technical Leadership

Project Management & Construction Oversight
Where practical, transition into the PM role post-award, managing the project from construction start-up through completion.
Develop comprehensive project plans, including but not limited to scheduling and procurement strategies. Along with overseeing project budget and cost controls, subcontractor coordination, and compliance with companies “Zero Harm” safety and quality standards.
Maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, and key stakeholders to ensure project success.
Lead project teams, mentoring and developing junior engineers and field staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
