    Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Department: Pharmacy Shift: Days Daily Work Times: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Scheduled Biweekly Hours: 80 Rate of Pay: $18.64 to $23.12 based on experience Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmaceutical Services or a Registered Pharmacist - and according to the standard procedures - compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving prescriptions from physicians or other qualified prescribes, dispenses additives for IV and irrigation solutions, mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic technique, with the laminar flow hood, types labels, prepares and files charge slips, and performs other related duties. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 1. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, weighs measures and mixes ingredients compounds and prepares medications, emulsions, liquids, powders, and ointments using such equipment as graduates, balance, mortars, pestles and funnels. 2. Replenishes medications in emergency crash carts, EMT boxes, or floor stock atears accurately. 3. Accurately fills bottles, capsules, or other package forms with measured amounts of medication according to the prescription. 4. Prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages accurately within specified time periods. 5. Makes round delivering prescriptions to the nursing stations. 6. Files physician's orders. 7. Data entry of physicians orders and patient information into pharmacy computer system. 8. Utilizes and operates automated dispensing technology (Omnicell) to facilitate inventory management and medication storage. 9. Charges appropriate patient and/or patient care area for medications and supplies as outlined by standard departmental procedures. 10. Organizes outdated or overstocked medications to ship back to manufacturers for credit. 11. Regularly dispenses additives for IV and irrigating solutions. Mixes IV additive solutions and chemotherapy as required using aseptic technique with the laminar flow hood. 12. Prepares intravenous ad mixtures or other sterile products (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) accurately and according to established standards. 13. Cleans the laminar flow hood and working area. 14. Prepares reports on IV activity as requested on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, as requested. Required Qualifications: * Possess high school diploma or equivalent. * Licensed to practice as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan. * Possess 6 months of job-related experience or completion of a pharmacy technician-training program or currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy. * Trained and educated in age-specific categories being served: neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. * Ability to operate office related equipment (computer terminal). MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Specialty Pharmacy Workflow: ยท Process and fill specialty medication prescriptions under the supervision of a specialty pharmacist ยท Conduct benefits investigations and obtain prior authorizations, working closely with insurance companies and providers ยท Manage specialty medication inventory ensuring proper storage, handling, and tracking ยท Document and maintain thorough records of patient interactions for regulatory compliance ยท Assist with quality assurance programs and ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations ยท Stay up to date on new specialty pharmacy regulations and company policies Specialty Pharmacy Call Center Workflow: ยท Serve as the primary point of contact by answering inbound calls from patients, providers, and pharmacy staff members regarding prescriptions and pharmacy services ยท Process specialty prescription refill requests and verify patient information ยท Coordinate patient follow-ups to monitor adherence and address concerns ยท Provide patients with updates on prescription status and delivery timelines ยท Escalate clinical issues, beyond the scope of a pharmacy technician, to the specialty pharmacist when necessary ยท Work closely with internal pharmacy staff to resolve medication-related concerns ยท Assist with outbound calls for prescription reminders and follow-ups as needed In-House Pharmacy Workflow: ยท Assist in-house pharmacy staff with general, retail-style pharmacy workflow and tasks in the event pharmacy technician coverage is needed ยท Accurately enter prescription drug data into pharmacy operating system ยท Processing patient transactions, including ringing up purchases and handling payments Communication: ยท Treats patients, co-workers, and clinic staff in a respectful and confidential manner. ยท Able to respond to the requests of patients, co-workers, clinic staff requests in a courteous and timely manner ยท Understands and adheres to patient confidentiality practices and procedures, and will hold themselves accountable to ensuring patient privacy Regulatory / Record Compliance: ยท Engages in quality assurance activities to support specialty pharmacy operations and patient care ยท Accurately document required information in an efficient and timely manner to support seamless patient care and with adherence specialty pharmacy regulation and compliance Other Duties as Assigned: ยท Performs other clinical and pharmacy duties as assigned to accommodate reasonable needs of the patients and the department provided duties to meet practice norms and legal regulations/standards EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Tennessee state Pharmacy Technician licensure in good standing Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or equivalent) in good standing Strong knowledge of pharmacy calculations and sig codes, and commonly prescribed medications Minimum of 1 year of experience in a specialty pharmacy setting Minimum of 2 years of experience in any of the follow settings: retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, or pharmacy call center Basic knowledge and navigational skills of Microsoft Office programs (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Strong problem-solving and investigative skills Strong customer service and verbal and written communication skills Desired Experience: Proficiency in navigating TherigySTM specialty pharmacy management software highly preferred Proficiency in eClinicalWorks highly preferred Proficiency in PioneerRx pharmacy software highly preferred Proficiency in navigating prior authorization hub CoverMyMeds and experience in prior authorization processing Previous call center experience preferably in a healthcare and/or pharmacy setting Preferred Bachelors and/or post graduate degree 5+ years' work experience in a specialty pharmacy setting 5+ years' work experience in a retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, or pharmacy call center setting Benefits: Competitive salary Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) plan with company match Paid time off and holidays Opportunities for professional development WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is performed in a structured pharmacy setting.
