Job Summary: The Clinical Laboratory Extern works under the supervision of laboratory staff and has knowledge of procedures learned during their practical applications. This includes conducting analysis of specimens and results to verify accuracy. Collect, prepare, store and/or transport specimens using correct techniques, anticoagulants and protocols while being responsive to the patient/customer waiting. Collect, process, and maintain patient identification and testing integrity throughout the preanalytical, analytical, and post analytical processes. Organize and perform analysis of specimens to include quality control. The assignments will include working with team members in the Risk Management department in managing global compliance of the Vendor Due Diligence policy. Assist the team in the collection of exposure data for insurance policy renewals and claims data for loss control projects. Heartland Veterinary Partners' Externship Program works to provide 1st-4th year veterinary students with hands-on experience and mentorship to help have them 'practice ready' by their first day in practice. Externships are typically 2 weeks long and Heartland will cover the cost of lodging if needed. Length of externship is flexible & we can support your preceptorship documentation as well. Conducts hourly rounds utilizing the 4 P's. Performs standard room checks (stocking of gloves, changing needle boxes, assessing call light function) Understands and recognizes appropriate storage and safety of medications (such as large volume IV's, alcohol, saline, medications in prepackaged kits). Qualifications: Minimum 1 year of related work experience and/or completion of one semester in a nursing program. Externship length & requirements are dependent upon your university. Requirements/Qualifications Eligibility Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Veterinary Technician School
