Delivery/Security of Medications including refilling ADCs and entering correct expiration date. Works well with others and as a part of a team. Maintains Organization and Cleanliness of Work Environment. Knows medications on audit high risk medication list and always refers these meds to a pharmacist for checking per pharmacy protocol. Utilizes pharmacy technology to compound, prepack and barcode medications for dispensing to patients. Accurately and securely pulls and refills controlled substances. Uses sterile technique and follows current USP guidelines and procedures for preparing IV admixtures, including hazardous drugs upon proper training.     TITLE: Specialty Pharmacy Technician REPORTS TO: Specialty Pharmacist FLSA: Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy LOCATION: East Jackson (ON SITE) JOB SUMMARY: The Specialty Pharmacy Technician supports the operations of a specialty pharmacy by assisting the pharmacist with the preparation, processing, and dispensing of specialty medications (e.g. hepatitis C, HIV). This role focuses on ensuring timely and accurate prescription fulfillment while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in coordinating patient care via patient-facing interactions and via the specialty pharmacy call center. Additional responsibilities include benefits investigation, obtaining prior authorizations, initiating patient assistance, managing inventory, coordinating medication delivery, and facilitating communication between providers, patients, and insurance companies. Performs the Discharge Technician duties to provide coverage when needed; this includes serving as a discharge prescription liaison for communication and filling needs of the program when needed. Responsible for inventory duties that include maintaining stock areas and workstations in a neat and orderly manner. Documents and communicates products to be ordered. Performs cycle counts as assigned correcting inventory on-hand quantities and verifying discrepancies. Reviews inventory stock and selects correct medications per prescription instructions. Regularly communicates workload status to fellow team members including the pharmacist on duty to ensure workflow efficiency. Coordinates with pharmacist-on-duty for all work and meal breaks. Effectively communicates workload status between shifts. Uses proper phone etiquette when communicating with patients, healthcare providers and co-workers. Participates in pharmacy topic and staff meeting discussions. Actively participates in any process or procedural change discussions to bring new ideas and feedback to the group. Education High School Diploma or GED is required. Experience Pharmacy experience is preferred. Certification & Licensure Valid Virginia Pharmacy Technician Certification is required within 9 months of hire. Qualifications Excellent customer service and communication skills required.
