Posting Summary Rutgers The State University is seeking a per diem Mental Health Specialist II in the Acute Psychiatric Services (APS) - Piscataway of Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare. Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Mental Health Specialist II will provide services which support the delivery of clinical services in the Unit. Among the key duties of this position are the following: * Takes primary responsibility for answering telephone calls from consumers. * Documents all telephone calls in the Acute Psychiatric Services (APS) telephone log or Electronic Medical Record (EMR). * Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with Rutgers UBHC policy, University policy, Joint Commission standards and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) requirements. * Refers consumer calls to a clinician as directed by the Program Coordinator. * Conducts initial triage of consumers and families when they arrive onsite five (5) minutes after arrival and provides immediate report to the Program Coordinator.     Nichols College Counseling Center Mental Health Counselor The Counselor is an integral team member in the Nichols College Counseling Center (NCCC). The counselor will provide therapeutic, developmental, and crisis intervention through individual, short-term counseling, psychoeducation groups, outreach, and counseling services for students with acute psychological problems. In addition, the counselor provides consultations and coordinates the management of referrals to internal/external providers and community resources, as needed. The NCCC is under the leadership of the Director of NCCC and has collaborative relationships with members of the Nichols College Community. The focus of this position is to offer mental health services to students in order to reduce barriers to learning and create opportunities for greater academic achievement and student success. Key Responsibilities: * Primary role for the full-time mental health counselor is to provide therapy, using a short-term counseling intervention model, provide referral services, and participate in outreach to undergraduate students. * Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment in student emergencies, facilitating crisis response and/or hospitalization protocols as needed. * Complete necessary and required clinical and administrative paperwork in a timely manner, consistent with office expectations and professional standards. * Maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with students and faculty and staff within Nichols community as well as with partners in the local community. * Consults with faculty and staff on issues relevant to student mental health concerns, behavior, and educational performance, particularly members of the CARE team, residence life, and learning services, as needed with appropriate documentation. * Serve as a member of the Student Affairs team, working with Student Affairs committees to plan or participate in orientation, parents' weekend, leadership workshops, and other programs and events as specified. * As assigned, develop, coordinate, and implement student programming and outreach on a broad range of psychological and mental health issues. * Maintains and models the highest ethical and professional standards while working collaboratively across campus with all areas in support of student success. * Participation in wellness programs; some evening and weekend programs may be necessary. * Provide supervision for other clinicians, pre-licensure clinicians, counseling center staff, and interns as assigned. * Perform other related duties as assigned.
