This is a grant funded position with an end date of 8/31/2026, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals. This is a hybrid position that may be remote by consideration.
Our research team is working on a project focused on supporting the well-being of the harm reduction workforce, Stress First Aid (SFA) for the Harm Reduction Workforce, which we plan to expand into a large, randomized control trial (RCT) serving Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and tribal areas in fall 2025. SFA/HRW intervention comprises of a 2-hour training and learning collaboratives.
Purpose
The Research Assistant will provide research assistance with administrative tasks associated with a research study in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Austin, including tracking participants throughout the study, making sure participants receive payments and other participant contact activities.
Responsibilities
Participant Recruitment and Enrollment
* Sends recruitment emails and flyers
* Sends research information sheets to participants
* Potential to work with social media
Participant Tracking
* Assists in tracking study participation and retention over time
* Reviews data using software including REDCap, Excel, and other software and databases to track study participants and related activities
* Tracks participant compensation has been sent upon survey completion
* Sends reminders to participants to complete research components
* Assists with managing research-related correspondence from participants
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree
* At least two years research experience
* Demonstrated organizational skills.
* Public speaking experience such as in student organizations or from formal academic course work such as public speaking, or communication courses.
* Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate with research participants in a compassionate, sensitive manner. Good social media skills.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word and willingness to learn other technologies as necessary.

A Laboratory Research Assistant position is available to work with Dr. Kelly Dorgan at The University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, TX, starting in February 2026 (negotiable). Research in the lab integrates ecology, biomechanics (including engineering theory and methods), and invertebrate behavior, morphology and physiology with engineering theory and methods, including development of new instrumentation. This position is intended for a recent graduate (BS) looking to gain research experience before graduate school and will involve field and lab work as well as helping to manage the lab, including purchasing and organizing supplies. The technician will process sediment samples, sort and help identify benthic invertebrate samples, conduct field work in local estuaries and potentially on longer research cruises. The technician may also have opportunities to analyze and synthesize data, work on instrument development and trouble-shooting, and help set up a new innovation workshop

Purpose
To assist on a research study with the Physiological Laboratories that aims to investigate cognitive reserve in older adults through advanced neurophysiological and biomarker approaches. The study will recruit older adults from clinical, community, and advertising outreach and leverage high-density EEG to capture dynamic brain network flexibility and error-related activity during a range of neurocognitive tasks, including those in naturalistic gamified environments.
Responsibilities
Responsible for evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering and/or scientific techniques used in routine research.
Schedule and lead data collection appointments across multiple sites and maintain communication with participants. Lead recruitment at all study sites and adherence to procedures/protocols to ensure optimal subject participation rates and accurate data collection and reporting.
Perform basic laboratory tasks, including managing study equipment, assisting in data acquisition and analysis, biological sample collection and/or processing.
Set up and operate equipment for physiological and neurophysiological data collection, including ECG, blood pressure, respiration rate, EEG, EOG, and exercise-related sensor measurements (e.g., pedaling speed and resistance).
Administer questionnaires, surveys, and other research instruments to study participants. Makes and records observations and measurements. Accurately perform data entry and maintain organized records of collected data. Complete preliminary data cleaning and perform data analysis under the supervision of the research team.
Collaborate with PIs and project investigators to prepare methodological notes, reports, presentations and other dissemination activities related to the project activities.
Facilitate institutional review board (IRB) applications, submissions, and updates across multiple sites.
Assist in training project staff and research assistants who may help with data collection. Other related functions as assigned.
Conducts specified phases of research projects and may report results at scientific/technical meetings or in technical papers as a junior author.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in neuroscience, biomedical engineering or health science discipline plus two years of related experience. Or Master's degree or higher in neuroscience, biomedical engineering or health science discipline.
Ability to manage an active interdisciplinary biomedical research laboratory.
Work efficiently and productively with staff, research teams (listen, seek clarification, and take feedback) and with human research subjects in accordance with institutional guidelines.
Must be skilled with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

* Meet with potential clients to provide consultation on STEM education related research and evaluation design.

Purpose
Responsible for executing multiple traumatic brain injury clinical trials under the guidance of the Clinical Research Manager in the TRACK Lab in the Department of Psychology and Dell Seton Medical Center.
Responsibilities
* Execute clinical research protocols by enrolling trauma patients into time-sensitive clinical trials. Screen patients, explain study, obtain informed consent, and collaborate closely with study doctors to ensure subject eligibility. Coordinate baseline blood collections, patient randomization, and administration of IP.
* Communicate with study participants, schedule follow-up visits, perform investigational drug accountability, collect MRI and outcomes data, perform phlebotomy, collect vitals, process blood samples, collect and report adverse events to study doctors according to study protocol.
* Collect, document, and enter subject data on Case Report Forms (CRFs) and Electronic Data Capture (EDC) platforms. Extract medical data from electronic medical records. Resolve data queries, create notes to file, memos, and incident reports as needed.
* Maintain study regulatory binders and study files according to regulatory guidelines to ensure site readiness for audits and inspections. Participate in monitoring visits and respond to monitor requests and findings.
* Submit to IRB and OHRO for study start up, maintenance and close-out. Submit IRB reportable information according to protocol requirements and regulatory guidelines.
* Support the onboarding, training, supervision and mentorship of junior team members. Create training documentation.

Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree and at least four (4) years of experience executing clinical research studies, preferably inpatient drug treatment trials. Or master's degree / RN with two (2) years of experience.

An Undergraduate Research Assistant will assist with long term research of ant communities at the Brackenridge Field Lab, located off the main UT campus, where science is studied and taught in an open and mentor-based environment. The student will sort and identify ants and other arthropods that have been collected in several long-term surveys of the ant community at the field station.
Job responsibilities:
Familiarize self with protocol, research objectives and tasks.
Plan and prepare materials and samples
Sort and group ant and arthropod samples into morphospecies
Prepare representative ants on pinned mounting points
Label specimens
Identify ants to genus (species if possible) using BFL ant guide and other keys
Identify other arthropod morphospecies to Order or Family using dichotomous keys
