Funding for the position is budgeted for three years; however, the position may continue beyond the initial budgeted timeframe contingent upon the realization of research funding from external grants or industry partners.
Purpose
Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Generative AI, the individual will, with independence commensurate with experience, perform research within the Center for Generative Artificial Intelligence and its parent organization, the Machine Learning Laboratory. Successful candidates will be appointed within either the Department of Computer Science or the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering depending upon the applicant's research thrust. In addition to competitive salary and benefits, this position includes funding for independent travel to workshops, conferences and other universities and research labs.
This multi-year program will host several researchers working on one or more of the following topics:
Natural Language Processing
Computer Vision
Machine Learning for Biology
Machine Learning for Health/Medicine
Responsibilities
Read and write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
Advance collaborative projects with industry via the Machine. Learning Laboratory's industry affiliates partner program.
Candidate should expect to spend one day per week on industry-facing projects.
Present research findings in public forums.
Collaborate with researchers and students at UT Austin.
Organize seminars, workshops, and other research activities.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a very closely related field with major coursework in these areas. Five (5) years collaborative experience post-degree. Documented experience in project management in a research setting. Excellent communication and collaborative skills, both oral and written. Professional demeanor.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in a field related to computer science or computer engineering. Ten (10) years collaborative experience post-degree. Practical understanding of data privacy practices and laws to ensure privacy, confidentiality, security, and of IRB/Institutional approval processes.
Salary Range
$90,000 to $120,00+ (depending on education and experience)

Purpose
Position will be responsible for developing and implementing formative and summative evaluations of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education related projects, research grants, and contracted evaluation services.
Responsibilities
Grant Writing Assistance and Research/Evaluation Design
Meet with potential clients to provide consultation on STEM education related research and evaluation design.
Assist potential clients with the identification of key performance indicators and metrics, appropriate quantitative or qualitative data collection methods and instrumentation, and analysis techniques to address research and evaluation questions.
Assist potential clients with the development of logic models for grant proposals.
Develop evaluation component of grant proposals in coordination with potential clients.
Conduct Research and Evaluations
Design and manage process and outcome evaluations of STEM education related programs.
Collaborate with external organizations (e.g., colleges, research centers, data depositories) and internal partners (e.g., TACC staff) to obtain data for analysis.
Assist TACC staff and external clients with Institutional Review Board process and documentation.
Develop data sharing agreements, formalize Institutional Review Board documents, and Memoranda of Understanding on research and evaluation projects.
Develop and/or identify appropriate content-specific instrumentation for evaluating project metrics as needed.
Conduct interviews, focus groups, site visits, and/or classroom observations as needed.
Collaborate with TACC staff to manage the secure storage and handling of all evaluation data.
Conduct quantitative research and evaluation (e.g., survey design, descriptive statistics, inferential statistics).
Contribute to the research/evaluation team, collaborating with TACC faculty, staff, and graduate research assistants as needed.
Write project evaluation component of required reports to funding agencies.
Create data visualizations and briefs to communicate evaluation findings to multiple audiences.
Dissemination of Findings/Services
Write and submit research articles and presentation proposals.
Disseminate research and evaluation results at national and regional conferences in coordination with research/project team.
Represent TACC at local, regional and national events, promoting research and evaluation services.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Mathematics or Science Education, Computing, Educational Psychology, or other STEM Education-related fields with a strong background in STEM education research.

Proficient in statistical analysis software such as STATA, SPSS, R or SAS.

Purpose
The Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL) delivers capabilities to government customers for numerous applications, from on-site real-time data-intensive underwater acoustic signal processing to standalone remote field systems.
ESL is seeking a motivated individual to conduct SONAR and underwater acoustics research and development with an emphasis on acoustic modeling and simulation, signal processing, experimentation, and data analysis.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and assess advanced underwater acoustic modeling techniques and algorithm development across various disciplines such as signal processing, statistical inference, propagation modeling, and system integration.
Conduct objective, research-centric analysis and assessments of real and simulated data for ARL:UT and industry SONAR systems and algorithms.
Communicate results of scientific research to sponsors and scientific community through briefings, working groups, meetings, technical reports, and publications.
Support the planning and execution of at-sea experimentation including hardware and software preparation, logistics, travel, data collection, and data analysis.
Collaborate with and participate in dynamic, multi-functional teams in support of specific program objectives.
