THE ROLE OF THE MECHANIC Responsible for mechanical maintenance services; maintains, inspects and repairs equipment and vehicles to ensure safety and on-going operation. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO: * Diagnoses, tests and repairs vehicles and/or heavy landfill equipment including, but not limited to, powertrains and drivetrains, as well as electrical, steering, braking, exhaust and suspension systems.
* Diagnoses, tests and repairs refuse vehicle and transfer trailer body systems including, but not limited to, hydraulic, body control, electrical and body mechanical systems.
* Diagnoses, tests, repairs and maintains processing equipment such as balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors and controls, as well as maintenance shop and company facilities.
* Performs basic fabrication work using welding equipment, torches, tools and/or machinery.
* Orders and maintains shop parts, tools, equipment and supplies.
* Accurately and efficiently completes paperwork and/or computer database entries relating to the work performed.
* Acts as a lead worker by regularly instructing and directing others by assigning, reviewing and checking work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
* Four years of progressively responsible mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
* Waste and recycling industry experience preferred.
* Experience and knowledge of DOT Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits.
* Experience working in a maintenance facility or related environment with vehicles, processing equipment such as, balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors and landfill equipment preferred.
* Expert knowledge of diesel and/or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components and parts, as well as fabrication tools and techniques.
* Knowledge of alternating and direct current electrical controls and motor systems.
* Knowledge of federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices; understanding of potential job hazards.
* Basic computer programs.
* High school diploma or GED preferred.
* Graduation from a formalized mechanical trade school highly desirable.
* Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with no restrictions required within 6 months of hire.
* Candidate(s) without valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License upon hire must possess a valid DOT medical certificate and instruction permit for a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement prior to hire.

The Mechanic is experienced in a wide range of mechanical skills. This position will be responsible for but not limited to troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and gas/diesel problems, including some fabrication. Additional responsibilities also include the maintenance, inspection, and repair of company owned vehicles and equipment, assisting with audits, inspections, and general upkeep of the shop. This position has the potential for promotion and wage advancement within the department with continued on the job experience and the completion of relevant certification programs.
How You Will Contribute
Coach and mentor entry level Mechanics, oversee daily work/performance, inspect installations/repairs, ensure all safety standards and practices are met.
Ability to make repairs on job sites as needed.
Conduct inspection of vehicles and equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot problems for repair.
Repair and maintain construction equipment of various types and sizes from light-duty to over the road trucks and from light-duty to heavy-duty operating equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance following operations manuals as well as electrical and hydraulic diagrams/ air condition units.
Remove and replace defective parts by dismantling devices using hand and power tools.
Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance when used.
May fabricate, weld, and cut parts, using arc-welding/ wire feed and flame cutting equipment.
Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) ninety-day inspections.

What You'll Do
Perform on-site preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on Class 8 trucks and trailers.
Respond to emergency road calls and dispatched scheduled/unscheduled work.
Diagnose and repair systems including electrical, brakes, cooling, A/C, charging/starting, steering, driveline, differentials, clutches, and more.
Handle engine and transmission external work (no internal overhauls): accessories, sensors/harnesses, cooling/fuel/air/aftertreatment R&R, mounts, linkages, external seals/filters, cooler lines.
Use scan tools, gauges, smoke/pressure tests, multimeter, and road tests to confirm faults before parts.
Work efficiently to standard times, source parts from approved vendors, and close tidy work orders.
Care for the service truck (pre/post-trips, safety checks, cleanliness) and keep records audit-ready.
What You Bring
3+ years as a diesel technician on Class 8 trucks/trailers.

Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and to ensure that they are working properly.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections of vehicle.
Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance, resolving their problems, or satisfying their expectations.
Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as to prioritizing work related activities and time allocations.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, as well as Diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
Document according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings observed on Repair Orders (“RO”) using company-issued iOS device and our proprietary TRAIT application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in a timely fashion.
Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for the repairs to be performed.
Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers and/or discuss RO findings notes.
Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, to include OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Maintain company issued service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline; or 5 years' experience in a related field.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
This position follows regulations issued by the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Candidate must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in leu of a DOT physical. If the DOT medical card has four (4) months or less of validity remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
Due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.
Safe drivers needed; valid driver's license required. Candidate must hold a valid state-of-residence driver's license, be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.

What You'll Do
Perform on-site preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on Class 8 trucks and trailers.
Respond to emergency road calls and dispatched scheduled/unscheduled work.
Diagnose and repair systems including electrical, brakes, cooling, A/C, charging/starting, steering, driveline, differentials, clutches, and more.
Handle engine and transmission external work (no internal overhauls): accessories, sensors/harnesses, cooling/fuel/air/aftertreatment R&R, mounts, linkages, external seals/filters, cooler lines.
Use scan tools, gauges, smoke/pressure tests, multimeter, and road tests to confirm faults before parts.
Work efficiently to standard times, source parts from approved vendors, and close tidy work orders.
Care for the service truck (pre/post-trips, safety checks, cleanliness) and keep records audit-ready.
What You Bring
3+ years as a diesel technician on Class 8 trucks/trailers.
Proficient with DOT inspections and air-brake systems.
Confident, professional communication with customers and drivers in the field.
Comfortable with mobile apps/email for work orders and documentation.
Willing to work outdoors and across varied schedules; self-motivated and safety-first.
Valid driver's license and clean record (insurance eligibility applies).

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
As our Experienced Truck Technician / Mechanic, you'll take on the challenge of maintaining and repairing medium and heavy-duty Class 7 & 8 trucks, ensuring every job is completed accurately, efficiently, and to the highest standards. You will directly support our customers' success by keeping their trucks running smoothly and maximizing uptime.
Each day, you'll diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues, identifying the best solutions to restore each truck to peak performance. Your work may include repairing or rebuilding major components such as cabs, steering systems, engines, transmissions, axles, differentials, brakes, clutches, electrical systems, and air systems.
Each day, you'll have the opportunity to continue improving your skills while working alongside other highly trained technicians in a fully equipped shop. With the right tools, training, and support at your disposal, you'll perform top-quality work that makes a real impact.
WHAT YOU NEED:
2 or more years of experience working on all makes and models of medium and heavy-duty class 7/8 trucks, including engine repair, electronic trouble-shooting, HVAC systems, and chassis repair. Will also accept candidates with a Diesel tech degree and a mechanical aptitude/background.
Kenworth Essentials certifications preferred.
Basic computer knowledge. Cummins and MX software experience preferred.
Self-motivation and assertiveness.
Ability to work under little or no supervision.
Excellent communication and customer relations skills.
Must provide own tools.
