Responsibilities include:
Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services.
Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record (Required)

Class B CDL OR the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to service, maintain, and repair all fleet vehicles, motorized, and mobile equipment used by University of Oregon personnel. The fleet of vehicles and equipment includes passenger cars, pickups, vans, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, garbage trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, school buses, electric vehicles, air compressors, portable and stationary generators, welders, rollers, mowers, edgers, weed trimmers, rototillers, turf vacuums, chainsaws and miscellaneous powered and non-powered equipment. Interactions/contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies.

Compensation
Based upon level of skill and experience, hourly compensation is $20.00 to $50.00. Night shift, weekend shift, and lead/mentor differential pay available.

Job Responsibilities:
Confer with customers or service advisers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements. Test-drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using diagnostic tools and special service equipment. Perform quality inspections of vehicle repairs prior to returning the vehicle to the customer Diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicle automotive systems including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, air conditioning, etc. Communicate directly with the service advisors so that customers can be informed if any additional service is needed. Providing an estimate of time needed for additional repairs. Execute repairs under warranty to manufacturer specifications.
Job Requirements:
As an Automotive Technician (Automotive Mechanic), you will be experienced and aware of the latest automotive technologies and be a persistent problem solver. We have determined some factors that may enable your success as an Automotive Technician:
Must have at least 3 years of experience as an automotive technician
Must have some level of instructor led automotive training (e.g. high school automotive, vocational, college, technical school, OEM, etc.)
Must have your own tools
Team oriented, flexible and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service
Must have working knowledge of shop equipment such as wheel and tire equipment, alignment system, diagnostic equipment, AC equipment, etc.)
Must have a valid driver's license

Responsibilities
As a field service technician for Freightliner Northwest (also known as “mobile mechanic”), you can expect to conduct on-road and customer on-site maintenance services by troubleshooting, diagnosing and performing preventative and corrective maintenance on heavy duty equipment.
Run diagnostic tests and analyze results.
Repair or replace vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems.
Working knowledge of engines, transmissions, differential, A/C and suspensions.
Determine unit condition by conducting inspections & diagnostic tests, identifying deficiencies.
Able to read schematics for electrical and air systems.
Develop technical skills through training opportunities.
Test equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications; make necessary adjustments if required.
Ensure the cleanliness of the mobile service truck.
Qualifications
Heavy equipment dealership experience is helpful in this job role; two years or more preferred. Three years of actual truck repair experience needed. Bring your strong mechanical aptitude, team player mentality and belief in safety first to Team Western Star Northwest!
Compensation
Based upon level of skill and experience, hourly compensation is $20.00 to $50.00. Night shift, weekend shift, and lead/mentor differential pay available.
Work Schedules: Work schedule and shifts will vary depending on business needs. We can accommodate a wide range of shifts and schedules.
Other: Must have valid driver's license and be insurable. CDL-A is a plus. Valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate or ability to obtain. A full complement of tools required for diesel equipment repair including wrenches and sockets to 1 ¼”, 3/8” and ½” drive air tools, floor creeper and a roll around tool cabinet.
Physical Demands: (These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successful perform the essential functions of the job.
