    HOKE COUNTY SCHOOLS 2025-2026 Mechanic I Transportation Team Title: Mechanic I Reports To: Director of Transportation Terms of Employment: Full Time 12 Months Salary: $2678.73 -$3873.08 FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt Qualifications: * High School Diploma or equivalent * 10-15 years of experience and/or training in repair and preventive maintenance of motor vehicles and repair equipment. * 5-years of supervisory experience, or any combination of training and experience. * Must possess (or, be able to obtain within 30-days) a valid NC Class-A Commercial * Driver's License - with all appropriate endorsements. * Must possess (or, be able to obtain within 45-days) valid certification in: * NC Motor Vehicle Inspection * NC School Bus Inspection Supervises: * Shop Technicians/Mechanics and Fuel Truck Operators Essential Job Functions: * Ability to operate, maintain, and repair all departmental equipment and vehicles. * Plan, implement, monitor, manage, and engage in preventive maintenance program for all school system vehicles (school buses, activity buses, service vehicles, staff cars, & staff support vehicles and equipment). * Efficiently and effectively coordinate with appropriate staff to: * Establish, implement, and maintain consistent scheduled vehicle maintenance routine * Ensure necessary parts, supplies, equipment, and personnel are available to execute routine in a timely, productive manner * Monitor and review all NCDPI maintenance reports and work orders (TD-18) to ensure: * Compliance with vehicle maintenance protocols * Quality control; to include coded accuracy of parts/supplies utilized for BSIP data input. * Provide operation/procedural guidance to ensure departmental compliance with all OSHA requirements. * Establish and coordinate summer bus maintenance program with summer school/program operational needs and schedule necessary painting for school buses. * Recognize, evaluate, and determine any/all departmental needs (equipment and/or repairs) * Collaborate with Cost Clerk on: * Meeting with vendors to identify and obtain parts and supplies * Receiving parts ordered and stock room maintenance * Parts procurements, as well as any/all invoice issue reconciliations * Issuance of parts to technicians/mechanics and charges to TD-18 repair work orders * Any and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director. Physical and Cognitive Requirements: The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Mechanic job classification within the Transportation Department of Hoke County Schools. Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
