The House Mechanic will perform a wide variety of duties and tasks associated with the mechanical (millwright) discipline. These duties and tasks include a multitude of maintenance interventions ranging from basic parts replacements to equipment refurbishment to optimizing equipment performance to advanced troubleshooting. The principle accountabilities include, but are not limited to: Inspection, (parts) replacements, alignment, balancing, installation, and refurbishment. Individuals will be required to understand the operating principles of this equipment and its role in the process/factory. Mechanics are expected to understand equipment function and application to the extent that equipment performance can be optimized. Individuals will work closely with Production gaining a detailed understanding of operating parameters to ensure that Maintenance interventions are both appropriate and effective. Perform a variety of joining and fabrication activities. To that extent, individuals will weld, cut, braze, and solder a variety of materials. This includes welding carbon steel using the SMAW and GMAW processes and welding stainless steel metals using the SMAW process. The CBP Aircraft Mechanic maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES * Utilize manuals, hand tools & power tools. * Utilize on-line computer research and diagnostics resource tools. * Extensive knowledge of electrical power, transmissions, brake, hydraulic and other equipment systems. * Ability to read job orders, observe and listen to equipment in operation to determine system malfunctions. * Repair cylinders, elevator chains, undercarriages, planetaries, recharges and replaces batteries, transmissions, torque converters, planetaries and hydraulic pumps using mechanic hand tools, welding equipment, standard charts and hoists. * Examine and replace protective guards, loose bolts and specific safety devices on heavy equipment as needed. * Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired truck or equipment to verify conformance to specifications. * Completes appropriate paperwork to support preventative maintenance and repair activities. * Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance. * Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors. * Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES: * Extensive knowledge and experience with all types of gasoline and diesel construction equipment and vehicles. * Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment. * Must be able to troubleshoot and problem solve. * Independently working to assess and repair equipment appropriately.
