This position will maintain and repair heavy construction, automotive, mechanical, and machinery. A range of positions, from Apprentice to Senior Master Mechanic, are available.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
As directed and guided by the Maintenance Supervisor, the essential duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following;
Diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment failures. Provide repair and maintenance to diesel and gasoline engines. Adjust and repair ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and steering systems. Maintain and repair chassis, frames, and bodies. Work with hoisting and jacking equipment, power tools, measuring instruments, gauges, and meters. Lubricate equipment. Maintain and repair tires, batteries, brakes, and valves. Perform shop management functions such as maintenance scheduling and spare parts inventory control, making estimates of material, labor, and equipment requirements.
Maintain a safe and clean work area.
Assist other mechanics as needed.
Have basic computer proficiency and good verbal and written communication skills.
Must have good organizational skills, meet strict deadlines, and document issues and procedures.
Can work in a team atmosphere and learn new tasks
Must be able to work unsupervised.

What will I do in this position if hired?
In this position, you will perform Powered Support Systems Mechanic duties. Typical assignments include:
* Assisting the Distribution Center (DC) Supervisor in the management oversight of the DC's generator and fleet maintenance program.
* Troubleshooting and repairing powered support systems, including engines, generators, alternators, gears and compressors, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components (i.e. Fans, belts, and pumps).

JOB SUMMARY
The Journeyman Mechanic performs routine maintenance and repairs on all City-owned vehicles and equipment including automobiles, light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, police pursuit vehicles, construction equipment, ambulances, and assists with fire apparatus maintenance.
Essential Functions
1. Performs routine preventative maintenance and state inspections on all vehicles and equipment.
2. Performs troubleshooting and accurate diagnosis of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and computerized vehicle components.
3. Performs scheduled and unscheduled repairs to fleet vehicles and equipment while conforming to industry and federal standards.
4. Responds to roadside or field repairs as needed.
5. Test drives vehicles and operates equipment before and after repairs.
6. Performs accurate and detailed documentation of service and repairs utilizing computerized fleet maintenance software.
7. Assists in new vehicle and equipment check-in, up-fit, and decommissioning operations.
8. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.
9. Utilizes good housekeeping practices to maintain the shop, work area, tools, and equipment in a safe and orderly manner.
10. Regular and timely attendance is required for this position.

Job Description
The Journeyman should be a Plumber, Steamfitter, Pipe Fitter, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Fitter or Pipe Fitter Welder who has been engaged at the trade for at least five (5) years.
