The Sr. Field Mechanic with MYR Group you'll travel to project sites across the designated service area, supporting our field teams. At times, the Mechanic will be required to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays. A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided. When travel is required, meals and lodging will also be provided.

Essential Functions

Perform mechanic assignments using independent judgment to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations
Perform a full range of servicing and repairs on various types of fleet equipment, including malfunctioning parts and systems. Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines and company schedules
Frequently travel to customer job sites for repair/maintenance of equipment. Must maintain service vehicle in a clean and professional manner
May provide oversight for less experienced mechanics

Work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other rules and regulations as required
Participate in training programs; maintain and update safety skills and knowledge; keep current with hazardous material training requirements

Must have five years of experience in general heavy truck repair, automotive repair, or equipment repair; equivalent trade school/technical school time may be applied toward this requirement OR have completed a vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in vehicle and equipment repair and have four years of experience.
Must be capable of operating company vehicles and equipment on a daily basis. Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and good DAC Report.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) is desired but not required.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, physical, and a criminal background check is a condition of employment for this position with Valley Transit. Must be able to communicate and follow written and oral instructions given in English. Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED, any higher education is desired. Minimum of five years of mechanical experience in transit, medium/heavy duty truck, automotive, related trade school or a combination of any of these preferred. The Mechanic III is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on company vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations both in repair facilities and in the field. Key Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance
Safely operate vehicles and hydraulic components to access service points.
Perform and document preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) and annual inspections per schedules.
Grease vehicles and equipment per established schedules.
Change oil, fuel, transmission, hydraulic filters, and perform fluid services.
Conduct brake, drum, clutch adjustments, and suspension checks.
Maintain oil levels in CNG compressors and perform scheduled CNG inspections.

Repairs

Fabricate and replace hydraulic hoses, seals, and gaskets.
Perform manual and automatic transmission service and repairs.
Support rebuilds and major repair projects as assigned.
Provide input on feasibility and materiality of repairs.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, WUTC, and L&I standards.
Accurately complete repair orders, PM checklists, and inspection forms.
Participate in facility safety audits (fire extinguishers, exit signs, oil containment, hazard prevention).
Support shop software implementation and inventory system improvements.
Collaboration & Leadership Support

What You'll Do:

Under general supervision, does skilled work in the adjustment, maintenance and repair of trucks as assigned by the Shop
Foreman.
CORE RESPONSIBILITES:
Perform maintenance and repair work on trucks as listed on repair orders assigned by Shop Foreman. Inspect trucks
to diagnose concerns and/or troubleshoot concerns with proper equipment to make proper repairs or adjustments.
Follow established guidelines for proper repair and maintenance of trucks. Consult service literature as needed to
affect proper repairs, maintenance or trouble shoot. Inform Shop Forman of any additional repairs or maintenance that
is required on a vehicle. Complete a parts requisition for all parts needed to complete a repair.
Properly document cause and correction for all concerns listed on repair order as the work is completed. Tag and
secure warranty parts in accordance with policy and procedures.
Attend training classes as assigned by Shop Foreman. Stay up with industry standards and changes through
OEM literature and trade association information.
Operate shop equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Properly clean and return shop equipment to its
proper place. Keep work environment clean and safe.
Increase customer's satisfaction by effecting repairs correctly the first time. Accomplish and maintain a high level of
efficiency and productivity. Maintain a set of hand tools to properly effect repairs as assigned.
Consult warranty department as needed for proper repair procedures and parts required for warranty repairs, service
programs and recalls.

The Mechanic III is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on company vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations both in repair facilities and in the field. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, this role supports both facility and field-based maintenance needs while assisting in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, WUTC, and OSHA standards, requiring strong technical expertise, independent problem-solving, and leadership in supporting junior mechanics and shop operations.
Key Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance
Safely operate vehicles and hydraulic components to access service points.
Perform and document preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) and annual inspections per schedules.
Grease vehicles and equipment per established schedules.
Change oil, fuel, transmission, hydraulic filters, and perform fluid services.
Conduct brake, drum, clutch adjustments, and suspension checks.
Maintain oil levels in CNG compressors and perform scheduled CNG inspections.
Collect and submit oil samples as scheduled.
Inspect shop vehicles weekly and complete DVIR-related tasks.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Repairs
Diagnose and repair complex issues with electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on equipment both in the field and in the shop.
Perform DVIR repairs and certify work is completed safely and in compliance with DOT/FMCSA standards.
Fabricate and replace hydraulic hoses, seals, and gaskets.
Perform manual and automatic transmission service and repairs.
Support rebuilds and major repair projects as assigned.
Provide input on feasibility and materiality of repairs.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, WUTC, and L&I standards.
Accurately complete repair orders, PM checklists, and inspection forms.
Participate in facility safety audits (fire extinguishers, exit signs, oil containment, hazard prevention).
Support shop software implementation and inventory system improvements.
Collaboration & Leadership Support
Work closely with the Maintenance Department Lead to prioritize repairs and PMs.
Assist in mentoring junior mechanics and apprentices.
Participate in daily huddles and safety meetings.
Provide feedback on process improvements, equipment reliability, and training needs.
Qualifications
