What You'll Do:
Perform preventative maintenance and service a wide variety of landscape power equipment. This will include commercial mowers, 2 cycle equipment, utility vehicles, trailers and trucks.
Operate in a shop where an inventory of spare parts and supplies are maintained.
Operate safely and maintain shop in a clean, orderly manner.
What We're Looking For:
A professional with a minimum of 3+ years repair experience with mowers, small engines, 2 cycle equipment, and utility vehicles.
Must possess a strong mechanical skill-set including knowledge of basic electrical systems, hydraulic systems, mower technology and engines, both gasoline and diesel.
Basic automotive repair experience.
A team player with good communication abilities: must be adept at fostering communication between branch management, account management and crew leaders.
Strong organization skills-strength in record keeping, shop cleanliness, inventory and parts ordering, desire to stay proactive and not reactive as it applies to preventative maintenance and repairs.
Must have own tools.
High school diploma with additional technical certifications is a plus.
Basic computer skills, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues with unique large scale food waste processing equipment and maintain equipment based on equipment manufacturer specifications.
Work alongside our team to maintain our co-generation electrical unit, repairing pumps and mixers, large scale repairs to solid waste equipment, and general preventative maintenance.
Works safely at all times by preparing and/or following Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to protect self, other personnel, and plant equipment/systems.
Reads and interpret tables, drawings and specifications as well as think critically to evaluate the condition of systems, machines, equipment, and their components.
Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment based on manufacturer specifications.
Fabricates/constructs or orders replacement parts and installs them.

This role is responsible for providing on-site diagnostics, repair, and maintenance for refuse collection vehicles (front loaders, rear loaders, side loaders, and roll-off trucks) throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The ideal candidate has strong experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and heavy-duty truck repairs, and thrives working independently in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on refuse collection vehicles at customer sites.
- Service hydraulic systems, electrical systems, compaction equipment, and lifting arms.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, including inspections, adjustments, and component replacements.
- Operate service truck equipped with tools and parts to complete field repairs.
- Document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations.
- Communicate effectively with customers to explain issues, timelines, and solutions.
- Ensure safety standards are followed at all times when working on heavy equipment.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a diesel, heavy-duty, or refuse truck mechanic (field/mobile experience
preferred).
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems used in refuse trucks.
- Familiarity with McNeilus, Heil, Labrie, or similar refuse bodies a strong plus.
- Ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty truck systems with minimal supervision.
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in outdoor environments year-round.
- Own tools required; company provides specialized tools and service truck.
