Ability to inspect and replace spark plugs, ignition wires, air filters, and fuel filters, cooling system, compression to improve engine performance and fuel efficiency. Proficiency in setting ignition timing and adjusting carburetors or fuel injection systems for optimal engine operation. Maintaining and calibrating equipment, such as lifts and any specialty area equipment. Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries. The Mechanic will be responsible for repairing and maintaining a variety of engines and diesel engines used to power our fleet trucks, tractor trailers and tankers using hand tools, and machine tools. Our fleet is multi-brand and multi-year. DOT compliance knowledge is a must in keeping our fleet safely on the road. Work is performed in both office and shop settings so exposure to dust, dirt and common mechanical and shop chemicals can be expected; must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend, twist and lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly. This position serves as an entry level mechanic in the performance of maintenance and repairs of gas, and diesel power equipment. The work schedule may be modified to reflect the public's demand for transportation service, which will change the need for vehicle maintenance. This position will require the maintenance of all city vehicles not just transit vehicles. Ability to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time, driving, or riding in vehicles or equipment. 2.
