Diesel Mechanic Position Summary:
This position is required to safely and accurately perform general property and vehicle maintenance & repair duties in and around the shop operations in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge and understanding basic preventative maintenance and repair techniques of Class 5 through Class 8 commercial vehicles to include tank trailer inspection and maintenance related to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations is required.
Diesel Mechanic Essential Functions:
All fleet mechanic positions will be required to perform vehicle maintenance & repair duties safely and accurately in and around the shop operations in a fast-paced environment.
Fleet Mechanic Levels I & II will learn and become proficient utilizing the company's maintenance software program to create and complete work orders and maintain work order/vehicle maintenance records. They will also train/assist other technicians in performing preventive/repair of facilities and equipment to include trucks, tractors, and trailers.

Holds a current Air Brake Certification in compliance with FMSCR 396.25 or has at least 1 year of verifiable experience with the ability to obtain Air Brake Certification through KAG
EPA 609 certification (Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Repair) or the ability to obtain certification through KAG
Requirements for HM183 Positions:
Valid Driver's License
Verifiable proof of 3-year tank testing commercial motor vehicle inspector in compliance with FMSCR or has at least 1 year of verifiable experience under a qualified inspector with the ability to obtain (DOT) commercial motor vehicle inspector certification through KAG
Physical Requirements:
LIFTING REQUIREMENTS: Frequently lifting up to 50 pounds. Anything over 50 pounds is lifted with assistance.

Under general supervision, the Air Conditioning Mechanic performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs and installation of HVAC equipment, and related components.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following are the essential duties and responsibilities the incumbent must be able to perform.
Maintain and repair HVAC equipment including split systems, VRF ducted and ductless systems, package units, water pumps, heat pumps, fans, air handler units, heating units, refrigeration equipment, and air compressors.
From interpreting blueprints, manufactures' instructions, and written or verbal instructions, determine the sequence of operations required to maintain, repair, and adjust air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
Perform periodic or special preventive maintenance inspections to ascertain the general condition of the equipment and make recommendations for repairs as necessary to keep the equipment in good operating condition.
Perform the recommended routine preventive maintenance on the equipment.
Troubleshoot problems using appropriate electrical, mechanical, or pneumatic testing equipment.
Adjust pneumatic, mechanical, and electric controls, including calibrating, replacing, and setting for appropriate temperatures and pressures.
Assist in the installation of major new air conditioning systems, including installation of ducts, piping, various air conditioning units, and related equipment.
Perform Air Conditioning Shop and Central Facilities Services duties.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.
Education: High school diploma, or the equivalent through additional education, training, and/or experience beyond the minimum required.
Experience: At least (5) of demonstrated experience applying the techniques of the trade.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Fluent English language skills, including ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write.
Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, determine linear measurements, compute areas and volumes of conventional shapes and forms, and compute approximate weight of objects.
Ability to climb ladders, crawl in attics and under buildings, lift and carry heavy equipment, bend, stoop, work from heights, and work in uncomfortable positions.
Ability to work under all weather conditions.
Be able to be contacted by telephone during non-working hours.
Be available for overtime work and to be on-call.
Be able to wear protective clothing and equipment as required by the tasks being performed.
Be able to work in a safe manner and comply with all applicable OSHA and Cal/OSHA rules.
Present a neat and professional appearance and be capable of performing all tasks and presenting oneself in a manner that reflects favorably on CFS and TCCS, and of promoting the interests of these organizations throughout The Claremont Colleges and TCCS.
Thorough knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration thermodynamic and psychometric principles.
Other:
Universal EPA certification.
A valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to TCC's automobile liability insurance provider.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with VRF systems including service, replacement, installation, set up and commissioning for Mitsubishi, Carrier and LG VRF systems.
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Will be added to the on-call rotation to include weekends. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.

Pay: The hourly rate for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $32.70 - $34.62

Completion of a recognized elevator mechanic training program* of at least four years' duration.
OPTION II
Five years of experience in the maintenance and repair of elevators or escalators, one year of which MUST have been at the journey level.

LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License* is required at the time of appointment to perform job-related responsibilities. Those who currently have an out-of-state driver license are also required to obtain the California Class C Driver License before appointment.

A City of Los Angeles Regulation 4 Certificate may be required for testing Life/Safety systems in County buildings located within the city limits of Los Angeles. Life/Safety systems are defined as: fire alarms, automatic-closing fire assemblies, elevator recall, fire suppression, and emergency power systems.
PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class III -- Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
* In order to receive credit for the required certificate of completion of a recognized Elevator Mechanic training program and certifications, you MUST include a legible copy of the certificates at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days from the date of application filing. Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Credit will be given to applicants who possess DESIRABLE qualifications and indicate so on their employment application at the time of filing.
Experience beyond the requirements in the maintenance and repair of elevators -AND- escalators at the journey level.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The supplemental questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be utilized as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of disqualification in order to reapply.EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based on application information and desirable qualifications weighted 100%.
APPLICANTS MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.
VETERAN'S CREDIT
