About First Student's Mechanic Position
At First Student, our technicians perform maintenance to ensure our fleet of newer vehicles is safe for road travel. They also use their diagnostic skills to troubleshoot issues needing repair work. As a technician at First Student, your day will include the tasks mentioned above and the following:
Performing maintenance on brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, & transmissions
Completing work orders
Assisting with mobile emergency services

The B Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of Norwalk Transit District's fleet of diesel and gas powered vehicles, including buses, body-on-chassis vehicles and all support vehicles; vehicle related components, including wheelchair lifts and ramps; vehicle support equipment; facilities and their related equipment, including fork lift and sweeper; light repair of HVAC, electrical and plumbing; maintaining all fixed passenger amenities; and, other duties as assigned by the Foreman/Management. Responsibilities
Opening and closing of facility: perform security and general inspection of facility.
Completing scheduled Preventative Maintenance inspections of vehicles and equipment.
Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and reviewing systems.
Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs on repair orders and inspection forms.
Respond to road calls and/or vehicle breakdowns.
Repair reported vehicle defects.
Use repair manuals, diagrams and diagnostic devices to determine vehicle performance conditions when conducting inspections or troubleshooting defects.
Troubleshoot engine performance and repair (in chassis overhaul).
Troubleshoot transmission performance and repair, under the supervision of an A Mechanic or Maintenance Foreman.
Vehicle maintenance/repair will include, but not be limited to, the following major component parts and/or systems: power and drive trains, electrical, suspension, brakes, air system, chassis, steering and alignment, fuel, emissions, exhaust, heating and air conditioning, coolant, accessibility features, and all other current and future features of a public transit vehicle. These duties are performed with light supervision and/or instruction of an A Mechanic or the Foreman.
Maintains and corrects vehicle, shop equipment, and facility deficiencies by servicing, removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies and sub-assemblies, as required.
Maintain all equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; and repair as needed.
Perform light body repairs, including but not limited to, replacing body parts, panels, bumpers and doors; priming and painting; and any other related activity.
Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting if needed.
Assist with inventory control through communicating part number utilization and remaining stock in inventory.
Contains costs by evaluating service and parts options, as well as warranty provisions when available.
Provide back-up for service line fueling, washing and cleaning.
Perform snow and ice clean-up/removal at all Transit District facilities using designated snow equipment.
Maintain job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading related technical, mechanical and regulation publications.

Carries out safety and security policies and practices.

As part of closing responsibility, secure all exterior doors, including overhead doors.

Education and Experience Required:
Graduation from High School or a GED certificate.
Preferable technical and/or diesel trade school.

Clarity Water Technologies, LLC of Orangetown, NY is seeking a Water Treatment Service Lead Mechanic to service customers in the NY Metropolitan area.
A Head Mechanic performs routine service to customers, but as Head Mechanic he/she is relied upon to do initial mechanical evaluations of systems, our most complex design and installation and repair jobs, and oversees small crews of techs and helpers in the field. The primary duties of our Head Mechanic are:
Assembly and installation of specialized feed equipment including piping, PVC work, troubleshoot/repair.
Installation of feed pumps, filter feeders, and other chemical dispensing/monitoring equipment associated with boilers & cooling towers, heating and cooling systems, closed loops. Includes occasional Installation of Water softener systems.
Installation, piping, wiring, tubing, and troubleshooting of chemical controllers, associated with Water Treatment Industry equipment.
Occasional Cooling Tower repairs, including scraping/grinding/handling of sheet metal, applying water proofing materials.
Cooling Tower cleaning with power equipment and cleaning chemicals.
Plate Frame Heat Exchanger cleaning and gasket repair/replacement when necessary.
Occasional Duct Cleaning with Duct cleaning power equipment.
Introducing and Feeding chemicals into feed systems. Chemical transfer to containment tanks. Water circulation for leak detection within necessary parameters. Testing of Conductivity, pH, Nitrite levels.
Small repairs and replacement of PVC fittings, valves, site glass, etc.
Job Site inspections for potential equipment placement and material needs.
Some of the prerequisites and requirements are:
Advanced plumbing
Basic electric
Pro-press use
Any boiler operator training/certification (i.e. black, blue, gold seals)
Extensive knowledge of pumps, water systems
NY 7G, NJ 8D applicator certifications preferred.
OSHA certifications,NYC D.O.B. Site Safety Certifications preferred (assistance in obtaining any additional certifications will be provided).
