Mechanical Design Engineer Job 12 miles from Bridgewater
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate the design, analysis, and manufacture of rotating industrial machinery and ASME code-stamped pressure vessels for a wide range of customers at the forefront of today's process technologies. This position requires in-depth knowledge of ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1, along with a demonstrated ability to produce ASME calculations and compliance documentation.
The Senior ME will collaborate with on-site manufacturing, chemical engineering, quality, and operations in a fast-paced environment. This role will play a key part in advancing clients product lines through engineering analysis, modeling, simulation, and technical documentation. We seek a team member with a strong engineering foundation and a proven ability to identify and resolve complex technical challenges through detailed analysis. Additionally, this individual will mentor junior engineers and provide oversight to their work, fostering growth within the engineering team.
Principle Duties/Responsibilities
Design and calculations of ASME code stamped pressure vessels
Design and analyses of industrial rotating equipment
Selection and verification of mechanical components including seals, bearings, motors, pumps, etc.
Generate and review project documentation including but not limited to:
Code calculations and design reports
Stress and deflection analysis
Tolerance analysis and resulting GD&T requirements
Technical specifications
CAD models and drawings for fabrication, machining, assembly, customer, etc.
Equipment and piping layouts
Design and manufacturing strategies
Development of conceptual designs for prototypes
Design of lifting devices, fixtures and tooling for large-scale manufacturing operations
Coordinate with cross functional stakeholders (manufacturing, quality, etc.) as required for project execution
Review and verify compliance with technical specifications for both projects and components
Conduct finite element analyses (FEA) as needed (structural and thermal) and communicate findings through presentations or reports tailored to diverse technical audiences
Help develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives, often as a cross-functional task
Generate and review quality as well as departmental operating procedures
Oversight and review of similar work from mechanical designers and less experienced engineers
Requirements
Education & Experience:
BSME degree with 5-10 years of experience in the following technical areas, or
MSME with 5+ years of experience:
ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1
Industrial machine design, dynamic or rotating equipment
Static and dynamic stress/deflection analysis from thermal, pressure, and other mechanical loading scenarios
General:
Strong critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills
Strong written, verbal, and graphical communication skills
Must be willing and eager to learn, teach, and contribute to a wide range of projects.
Ability to evaluate efficiency and seek ways to improve or automate tasks, processes.

Technical:
Thorough understanding of pressure vessel design including welding, material selection and fabrication practices
Proficiency with ASME B31.3 Process Piping, design and analysis of piping layouts
Ability to efficiently interpret and generate engineering drawings and CAD models; familiarity with GD&T principles and drafting standards
Experience with ANSYS or other FEA programs, analysis of static structural/thermal models
Strong command of the following software: SolidWorks, Codeware COMPRESS, Draft Sight/ AutoCAD, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as metal fabrication, machining, welding, and assembly and be capable of interfacing with manufacturing personnel
Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals including stress and deflection analysis and application to real-world design challenges
Demonstrated ability to optimize component or assembly designs for manufacturing, part count reduction, material savings, and manufacturability
Experience working with SolidWorks PDM (Enterprise/Professional) in a multi-user environment or similar PLM/PDM system
Must be familiar with engineering processes, i.e. change procedures, quality control, and approval processes, document control, and file management of CAD data
Desirable Qualifications
Professional Engineering (PE) License
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate with intent to pursue PE License
Experience with foreign pressure vessel codes including:
Pressure Equipment Directive (PED - European Union)
Supervision Regulation on Safety Technology for Stationary Pressure Vessels (TSG - China)
Experience designing non-traditional pressure vessels to satisfy ASME BPVC VIII 1
Proficiency in both top-down and bottom-up design techniques using SolidWorks
Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) including a basic understanding of the underlying physical equations and numerical solution methods
Proficiency with engineering and manufacturing related modules of ERP systems including Part, Bill of Material, and Method of Manufacture creation and maintenance
