Job Description As an engineer on the Vode team, you will be responsible for defining and designing the products that are changing the face of the lighting industry. At Vode, minimalist design isn't a slavish devotion to cool, it is a direct and highly engineered response to the architectural marketplace. Your work will involve collaboration with industrial designers, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers and other key stakeholders as you design a world class lighting product. You will be expected to lead the design, development and validation in the creation of various lighting product designs and technologies. You will use your experience designing for high volume manufacturing processes and automated assembly to deliver the lowest cost of energy to our customers. Responsibilities · Innovate and create · Brainstorming design concepts and executing design concepts in all phases of a development cycle · Work with all stakeholders to deliver a world class design · Communicating cross-functionally on design directions and requirements · Concept generation, rapid prototyping and testing to evaluate new design directions · High volume part and assembly design from concept to detail design to manufacturing introduction · Detailed mechanical design for a wide range of production fabrication processes in order to optimize performance and cost. · Generating dimensional and tolerance analysis · Developing design and process with external vendors; acting as PD technical liaison among vendors · Material, process, and vendor selection · Create, manage, release, and maintain BOM's · Validation of components in bench and system configuration · Work with engineers from other groups to integrate components and electromechanical systems · Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to transition concepts to production · Managing and tracking multiple priorities within schedule requirements and ability to drive multiple vendors towards common project goals · Conducting design reviews and driving file release process Qualifications As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you have demonstrated successful experience through several product development cycles of bringing product from a blank sheet to production. You have experience delivering complex parts and assemblies on time and in specification. You have designed for a number of high volume manufacturing processes, and you have experience pushing the limits of manufacturing processes to get the results you need at the right price point. · Proficiency specifying GD&T and working with vendors to deliver parts that work · Ability to design for a wide range of high volume fabrication and manufacturing processes. Expert working knowledge of design using injection molded plastics, castings, machining, aluminum extrusions and sheet metal parts that meet functional requirements and are suited for mass production. · Proficiency in CAD modeling, Solidworks experience highly valued. Experience with advanced modeling techniques is a plus. Work with minimal supervision and create production documentation including product requirement documents, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOM). · Experience with product and process validation, reliability testing, and compliance · Detail oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills · Proficient with Microsoft Office. · 5+ years in mechanical design and documentation. · Proven ability to provide solutions to moderately complex engineering problems. · Ability to work effectively within a team environment and communicate technical issues both verbally and in writing. As a Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, building, and testing the flight-critical mechanical systems that bring our autonomous cargo UAV to life. Understanding program objectives and requirements sufficiently to conduct trade studies and define architectures, requirements, and interfaces between subsystems Developing subsystem and component requirements compatible with safety, performance, and business objectives Managing functional and physical interfaces between the vehicle subsystems and the vehicle Performing analysis and test, including supporting the design and build of test fixtures, to verify subsystems and components meet performance and safety requirements Selecting and managing suppliers/partners to ensure components are within budget, schedule, and specification Preparing and presenting at gated design reviews to demonstrate the adequacy of a design Our ideal candidate: MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline 7+ years of experience as a professional Mechanical Engineer, directly related to vehicle subsystem design in the automotive, aeronautical, and/or space industries Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD software, including PDM/PLM and data release processes Proficiency with MBD and GD&T Experience with complex mechanical, structural, and thermal management system design and analysis Experience with vibration, shock, thermal, and corrosion environmental testing and analysis Extremely capable in applying first principles, hand, and computer-aided analysis techniques to guide and prove mechanical designs Understands the intricacies of production processes including but not limited to sheet metal, composites, 3D printing, machining, waterjet and laser cutting, welding, bonding, etc. Is kind, respectful, and direct using strong verbal and written communication skills.
