Job Summary: We are seeking a well-rounded individual who is creative, passionate about design, and a talented 3D industrial designer. The ideal candidate will have exceptional knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes used in fabrication. Candidate will be responsible for efficiently and effectively developing technical drawings and processes by designing parts/equipment for the fabrication, building and assembling of custom exhibits. He/she builds and maintains effective relationships internally with project teams and externally with client and vendor representatives.
Essential Job Functions:
Design detailed models/assemblies that will be used for renders for clients and production drawings.
Develop detailed fabrication drawing that can be easily understood for both in-house and outsource fabricators.
Work alongside project managers and sales to understand client needs and timeline.
Work with other designers and team members to find creative solutions for customer needs.
Communicate with project managers on purchase needs.
Following project through from start to completion.
Liaison between all SME departments to ensure quality build per client's specifications.
Be able to budget your own time effectively on multiple projects to hit deadlines in a timely manner.
Use various technical software tools including: Solidworks, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Suite.
Be able to work in a fast passed environment.
Position Qualifications:
Required
High School Diploma
5+ Years of experience developing technical models and drawings for fabrication.
PC Skills: Solidworks, MS Office Applications, Adobe Suite.
Preferred:

PRE JOB AWARD
Work with the estimating department for review of connections & erectability issues. Review drawings and specifications for opportunities to provide VE and pitfalls related to structural steel connection design.
Furnish estimate of Connection Design cost as required. This can include approximate estimates based on tonnage or hard costs from sublet connection engineers.
Furnish preliminary connection design as needed for projects to be Bid.
Develop connection design "Samples" for use by our estimating department. Include Vertical bracing, moment conn's and various other designs.
POST JOB AWARD
Review all contract documents for connection cost savings opportunities and pitfalls.
Determine complete scope of work for connection design. Determine EOR requirements for certification/sealing of calculations and shop drawings. Determine EOM insurance requirements.
Evaluate structural connection design requirements for projects and oversee the development of the "Connection questions" RFI and "Project Connection Set-Up" documents. For subcontract connection design, solicit pricing and award including writing of purchase orders and acquiring certificates of insurance (COI). Confirm COI meets project requirements.
Review subcontract connection design for completeness and compliance with job requirements and LSC standards.
Oversee submittal and return of all connection design related submittals.
Manage all invoicing and Change Order costs from subcontract engineers.
Manage and/or issue Field corrective work sketches for connection design related items.
Assist in-house drafting personnel with design related issues.
GENERAL ISSUES
Oversee continued development of spread sheets for connection design.
Increase Visibility and knowledge of local and US Engineering firms (EOR).
Assist estimating, project management and production with interpretation of building codes, AISC, OSHA and other code requirements.
Review SDS2 for connection design capability and for appropriate "Set-up".
As time allows, evaluate different connection design options for economy. i.e. stiffened vs unstiffened extended shear plates, etc.
Develop in-house design capacity. Connection design, assist estimating, review shop dwg's, develop FW design fixes, etc. Train and oversee in-house connection engineers.
Develop new and update current Connection sketch standards for:

Responsibilities for this Position
ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:
As an electrical engineer for Undersea Mission Solutions, you'll be a member of a cross functional team responsible for design, simulation, testing, and validation of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including PCB layout, firmware, mechanical, and systems engineering to bring products from concept to production.

What you'll experience:

The Lead Hydraulics Engineer provides advanced technical leadership, system architecture expertise, and front-line support for both internal engineering teams and external customer development. This role drives the design and optimization of custom hydraulic systems for off-highway mobile equipment collaborating closely with Applications Engineering, Controls Engineering, and the Advanced Systems Team. Role duties would include some industrial system development as well as our mobile hydraulics systems focus.
The Lead Hydraulics Engineer serves as the primary hydraulics technical contact for Account Managers and OEM customers, supports quoting and feasibility assessments, mentors junior engineers, develops design standards, and ensures successful system performance through production troubleshooting and continuous improvement. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to lead technical discussions, and the capacity to manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
This role is expected to evolve into formal leadership of the Hydraulics Engineering team, including supervision of multiple direct reports and participation in resource planning and performance development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Design and optimize mobile hydraulic systems, producing schematics & circuits, and fabrication drawings for internal production and suppliers.
* Support pre-sale feasibility, BOM development, and quoting, while providing technical guidance to engineering peers, sales, production, and customers.
* Lead design reviews and perform component sizing, performance calculations, validation, troubleshooting, and optimization during prototype and production phases.
* Contribute to hydraulic design standards, maintain knowledge of relevant regulations and industry practices, and participate in customer visits, field testing, and equipment evaluations as needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Serve as the organization's primary hydraulics SME, mentoring junior engineers in design methodology, troubleshooting, and component selection.
* Interface with Account Managers to support sales opportunity qualification and provide structured production support with feedback loops for continuous improvement.
* Collaborate with Controls Engineering and the Advanced Systems Team to ensure proper integration of electrohydraulic controls and evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., smart valves, electrification).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Deep understanding of hydraulic components and system architectures, including load-sense, open-center, closed-center, and multi-function flow management.
* Experience with mobile valve platforms and manifold circuit design (including DIN cartridge manifolds, stackable valve systems, and integrated hydraulic control assemblies), with competency in manifold block layout, optimization, and manufacturability.
* Familiarity with electrohydraulic controls, CANbus interactions, performance curves, and the ability to troubleshoot systems using diagnostic tools and measurement instrumentation.
* Proficiency in CAD/3D modeling for schematic and manifold design (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, HydroSym/HydroMan), with knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes (machining, welding, hose assembly, etc.).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* 7-12 years of experience designing hydraulic systems for mobile or off-highway equipment, including support of OEM production volumes.
* Prior leadership experience providing mentorship or directing technical work, with exposure to electrification, hybrid integration, etc.
* Knowledge of reservoir optimization, thermal management, noise mitigation strategies, and related system performance considerations.
REQUIRED FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES
* Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and translate customer requirements into functional system architectures.
* Effective prioritization and time-management in multi-project environments, with solid understanding of engineering change control and revision management.
* Strong communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders and interpreting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
* Ability to work in both office and shop environments, including exposure to machining, fabrication, and assembly noise, and occasional lifting of components up to 40 lbs during prototype evaluations or commissioning activities.
* Comfortable standing, bending, and reaching while reviewing equipment or troubleshooting systems, with the ability to maintain focus and meet deadlines in high-pressure environments.
