Job Description BAE Systems, one of the world's largest defense contractors and a Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a well rounded Mechanical Engineer to help us conceptualize, execute, and commission modernization and new construction projects at Holston Army Ammunition Plant. In this position, you will be supporting the Ordnance Systems, Inc. (OSI) Business at our Kingsport, TN facility. This position will work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, and our hybrid approach provides plenty of on-site collaboration and support for new staff onboarding as well as the flexibility for working remotely some days. In this role, you will be responsible for mechanical engineering and technical tasks to support design, construction and commissioning of multi-million dollar modernization programs. Your work will include planning, design, analysis, and engineering inputs into the construction and maintenance of chemical plant facilities. You will take process flow diagrams created by chemical engineers to specify mechanical equipment that meet required temperature and pressure ranges. You will provide technical oversight during the actual field installation and commissioning of equipment. This position requires a high degree of technical competence regarding the broad application of mechanical engineering principles to the development of new capabilities and/or solutions to customers' challenging modernization problems. The Design / Project Engineer must be willing to own all aspects of the engineering process throughout the total life cycle of a development project to FAA approval and manufacturing. Responsibilities: Re-engineer legacy aerospace projects using ADPma's established engineering fundamentals. Utilize SolidWorks software for generating accurate 3D models and drawings (for use during engineering, manufacturing, and sales). Support engineering colleagues on large projects where there are crossover issues impacting their areas of accountability. Interests in working on a wide range of projects that exist on an airplane ranging from fluid / gas switches, electromechanical devices, actuators, gearing, and other mechanical parts. Learn the ins and outs of projects to support ADPma's Business Development and Sales Teams. Potential travel to customers and manufacturing facilities. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering or experience as a mechanical/design engineer (aerospace, federal contracting, and high-growth entrepreneurial environment preferred). A working knowledge of manufacturing techniques for product improvements related to reliability and cost saving. A working knowledge of GD&T fundamentals. About the Role The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate closely with Product Design Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing teams to support the complete product development and production lifecycle. The role requires the creation of detailed fabrication and assembly drawings, the development of manufacturing processes, and the implementation of process improvements to ensure high-quality and efficient production. This position demands a combination of technical engineering expertise and hands-on involvement in manufacturing operations and product testing. What You'll Do Produce part and assembly drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and supporting documentation from CAD models to facilitate manufacturing, testing, and assembly. Design and modify manufacturing processes, including the development and adjustment of equipment for component fabrication, assembly, and installation. Support product sourcing, purchasing, and material selection in alignment with design requirements. Provide technical and engineering guidance to support day-to-day production operations and process improvement initiatives. Design and implement testing methods to validate system and product capabilities. Participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, and designs to ensure manufacturability and compliance with standards. Prepare detailed product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing production and quality data. Additional Expectations Maintain awareness of individual contribution to quality, safety, environmental, and compliance standards. Report on all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel immediately. Participate in Continuous Improvement Initiatives to develop better procedures and increase efficiency. Department: Manufacturing Engineering This position is responsible for review of existing manufacturing processes and development of new manufacturing processes to support our production lines and ensure our ability to meet current manufacturing schedules and future growth targets. * Develop and improve new and existing production processes and methods for increasing output and efficiency, as well as reducing costs and preventing defects. Work to increase process stability to meet customer demand with minimum amount of resources. * Lend technical expertise to the Sourcing Group for the review and selection of new suppliers for the localized production of any new component parts required when a production line is transferred. This includes: * Identification of new potential suppliers * Review of supplier capabilities * Review of part requirements like tolerances and quality requirements * Technical review of initial offers (primarily tooling concepts and designs) * Develop process time standards, process flow, and layout for all new or transferred production lines * Assist Production Supervisors in solving technical, tooling, quality, process, and maintenance problems affecting the daily operations in manufacturing.
