Emerald Engineering is seeking a motivated Mechanical Designer / Engineer to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate or someone who has completed a technical drafting program (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar), and is eager to begin building a career in mechanical/HVAC design.
In this role, you will support the design of mechanical systems for a variety of projects, including commercial and high-rise residential buildings, working closely with experienced engineers and designers who will help you develop your technical skills, industry knowledge, and production capabilities.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time, in-person position based at our Tampa, FL (33619) headquarters. Candidates must live within a commutable distance of our office.
Role Responsibilities
Assist in the design and production of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, piping, and other related mechanical components.
Create and revise AutoCAD and/or Revit drawings, 3D models, and construction documents under the guidance of senior staff.
Support engineers with calculations, equipment selection, and basic system layouts.
Help prepare project deliverables such as plans, specifications, and reports.
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure accurate, high-quality design documents.
Participate in site visits to document existing conditions (with team guidance).
Maintain organized project files and support overall project workflow.

Position Overview

Our Tampa location is our newest addition to the SESCO Cement locations. With the terminal being in the construction phase, you will be part of the ground up growth of the terminal as it is moves towards completion. Once operational, you will work to continually improve the site through other projects as needed.
Responsibilities
This role will be heavily active in the field during the construction phase of a project, coordinating with subcontractors and crews, verifying quality of work, answering engineering questions and/or resolving issues that may pop up in real time.
Assist in development of project plan as requested. Specifically, provide support to Project Manager(s) through helping to develop business cases by gathering requirements, building investment decision models, etc.
Collaborate with the Project Manager(s) in purchasing activities including scoping and take-offs.
Prepare and forward submittals. Confirm submittal complies with plans/specs.
Support the development and updating of the project schedule and subcontractor detail schedules.
Monitor and expedite material deliveries ensuring all deliveries conform with the project schedule.
Administer subcontracts as assigned.
Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in the coordination of drawings.
Draft change orders. Solicit prices from subcontractors and suppliers. Perform scope take-off and estimate costs.
Aid in close out of project; includes assembling manuals and other warranties for turnover to owner and preparation final payment documents for subcontractors.
Act as the point person for document management applications.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or related degree or equivalent experience.
Must have 1-4 years of experience in the related field.
Working knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines such as civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and prepare them when applicable.
Ability to read and understand Project financial documents and budgets and prepare them when applicable.
MS Excel, MS Project, and AutoCAD/SolidWorks experience preferred.
Highly motivated, with a demonstrated drive for excellence and taking initiative

+ Collaborate with mechanical design teams, other analysts, and creative partners on the technical details of the simulations.

Required Qualifications & Skills

What You'll Do:
Participate in the development of design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, and client specifications.
Prepare working drawings from sketches and design specification.
Prepare presentations and materials for clients.
Participate in project design meetings to experience how multi-disciplinary teams collaborate on project design and delivery.
Attend client meetings; visit construction sites on projects.
Participate in site surveys to gather field data.
Education and Experience:
Educational Background: Will be a current student of an accredited Mechanical or Architectural Engineering program during Summer of 2026

The Opportunity ...
Design/redesign equipment components, assemblies, and systems of varying complexity with minimal supervision. Coordinate and manage equipment design and development projects, utilizing a cross-functional network to optimize the product development process.
Major Responsibility Area: Design/redesign of citrus processing equipment
* Design or redesign machine parts and assemblies to required customer specifications, focusing on design for function, manufacturing, assembly, service, safety, cost, and inventory efficiency.
* Work with Manufacturing shop, Planning, Sales & Marketing, and Engineering Management to determine the feasibility of designs and subsequent progress of designs or design changes.
* Submit, review, research, and implement Engineering Change Requests (ECR's) as required.
* Utilize technical relationships with suppliers to optimize product designs.
* Assist with maintenance of current technical standards for citrus processing
Major Responsibility Area: Coordinate equipment design & development projects
* Coordinate prototype manufacture with shop, the experimental shop, and external suppliers. Solicit feedback on manufacturability of design.
* Develop prototype testing protocol and schedules. Coordinate testing activities with R&D, Pilot Plant, Technical Service, and Processing Service. Coordinate with Processing Service on field tests. Solicit feedback on design fit, form, function, and serviceability.
* Provide regular project updates to the Management Team per project requirements.
* Use engineering and design tools such as calculations and FEA to analyze mechanical designs
Education:
Mandatory: BS Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Agricultural Engineering.
Preferred: MS degree in engineering or other scientific discipline.
Skills and Experience:
Mandatory: 6-10 years of engineering product design experience, or MS degree with 3-5 years' experience preferably in a food processing or related field.
Preferred: 10+ years of engineering product design experience, or MS degree with 6-10 years' experience preferably in a food processing or related field.
Travel Requirements:
up to 20% travel may be required
