What You'll Do
Develop forging processes, tooling, and dies using CAD and simulation tools
Review and interpret customer specs and translate them into production-ready plans
Collaborate with simulation engineers to validate and refine die designs
Support quoting efforts with sales by creating clear, accurate design packages
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize quality, efficiency, and cost
Participate in root cause investigations and drive corrective actions
Train production teams on new techniques and process improvements
Support new product introductions and upgrades to tooling or equipment

Specific Areas of Responsibility:
Execute design activities: CAD, design for manufacturability, and technical documentation.

Collaborate with colleagues and subcontractors.

Job Duties:
Provide professional mechanical engineering support to the French carrier program, focusing on EMALS/AAG equipment design, integration, and lifecycle sustainment.
Conduct feasibility analyses, structural and thermal evaluations, and system performance assessments for shipboard mechanical and hydraulic systems.
Develop and review engineering drawings, design data, and interface control documents (ICDs) to ensure compliance with applicable naval standards and international requirements.
Support installation planning, equipment layout optimization, and mounting interface design to integrate EMALS and AAG hardware into French carrier ship architecture.
Participate in system-level testing, commissioning, and performance verification at test sites and ship integration facilities.

Qualifications

Your Unique Blend: What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate for our Professional Development Program internship at BASF is a student majoring in Mechanical Engineering, with a graduation date between December 2026 and July 2029.
* Candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.2.
* Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions and be willing to relocate anywhere in the country during and after the program, as all assignments are in-person or hybrid.
* Candidates should demonstrate previous leadership experience and academic achievement, along with active participation in extracurricular activities and on-campus organizations.
* Previous internship/co-op experience is preferred.
* Familiarity with tools such as PowerBI, Power Apps, and advanced Excel proficiency is a plus, along with a strong interest in the manufacturing or chemical industry. Project management experience is also beneficial.
Interns will be assessed for a potential returning internship offer or full-time position in our 2-year rotational program. Mobility is crucial, with potential locations including Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, and Louisiana.

**The opportunity:**
