Job Purpose:
Design protection and control relaying applications for substations with focus on Protection & Control Settings and SCADA Settings. Expected to develop or possess expertise in protective relay settings calculations and analysis based on current and evolving standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.). Provide design support to field personnel; develop and maintain sufficient level of expertise in use of CAD software for efficient production of engineering work.
Primary Functions:
Ensure accomplishment of projects through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities;

The DesignEngineer - Substation will perform substation design assignments including physical layout and protection & control systems while ensuring compliance with safety and construction standards. Working with moderate supervision, CAD Engineer II transforms rough design concepts into complete and detailed CAD deliverables, while coordinating closely with engineering and design teams to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Utilize CAD software to create 2D and 3D models using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
Collaborate with more senior engineering and project managers to understand the design requirements.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and company policies throughout the design process.
Works on projects of moderate to high complexity with support.
Generate engineering models, drawings, and bills of materials for new designs under direction.
Interpret engineering sketches, layouts, and verbal instructions to produce accurate CAD outputs.
Maintain organized project files and documentation for easy access and review.
Approve mechanical models and drawings for release.
Creates 3D models for tooling.
Resolve discrepancies between design intent, markups, and final deliverables.
Assist in the development and design of composite parts and molds.
Generate engineering change notices as required.
Evaluate vendor-supplied items for their suitability regarding fit, finish, and performance.
Gain exposure to some of the more complex tasks within the job function.
Complete other functions assigned by supervisor.

Proficiency in CAD software, particularly SolidWorks.

Requirements
Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience Required:
BS in MechanicalEngineering or related technical field.
Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD Modeling experience, preferably SolidWorks and NX.
2 to 4 years of CAD experience within a manufacturing environment.
Understanding of engineering principles and design practices.
Desire to work in a “hands-on” environment.
Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience Preferred
Experience in the marine industry.
Experience with the development of composite parts.
Knowledge of composite molding process.
Experience with technical drawings and documentation.
Ability to trailer a boat and operate.
Physical Demands
Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature occasionally.
Must be able to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds when necessary.

**How You'll Make an Impact**
+ Testing preparation and field validation including testing at test-bed and customer sites.
+ Lead and facilitate fast resolution of technical issues of sold GTs. This includes evaluation of a root cause, solution development and implementation followed by verification/validation.
+ Operational data analysis of new units to identify trends and potential issues
+ Technical definition of Gas Turbine (GT) Operation Modes (e.g. Load Gradients, Grid-Code, Additional Features, Control System)
+ Close interaction and alignment with GT Module Engineering, Auxiliary/ controls and BOP.
+ Creation of related technical documentation
+ Analysis of related technical risks
+ Support of offering (Negotiation) process for GT projects with focus on GT operation
+ Support of COE projects for first time applications

**What You Bring**
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university/college. Master's degree is a plus.
+ Minimum 8+ years of successful experience in a gas turbine development environment with extensive understanding of gas turbine design, operational aspects & improvement levers. Advanced degree may be substituted for experience, where applicable.
+ Strong communications skills, network building, and solid engineering background. Good program management skills is preferred.
