About the Role
Our client is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their team and provide technical leadership for the mechanical design and development of the core technology, the "Node." The Node is a device designed to produce energy in the harshest ocean conditions for extended periods without maintenance. This role is crucial to the success of their mission. You will be responsible for the hull and the team that forms the backbone of our Nodes.
This is a role that requires deep structural design experience, ability to make outstanding technical contributions, and leadership abilities that are effective in a humble and high performance culture. Responsibilities
Accountable for the Node Hull structural design and integrity.
Accountable for the team that defines the Node primary and secondary structures.
Lead and participate in design reviews with the internal team and interface with external fabricators and vendors.
Mentor and guide other engineers and designers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
Oversee project documentation and create detailed engineering releases using drawings and GD&T as appropriate.
Partner closely with our Manufacturing and Operations team to produce new Node designs and design increments that achieve targets for cost and performance.
Develop and maintain expert level use of CAD software personally and within the team for engineering definition and release.
Requirements
A degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, or another related engineering discipline.
Extensive experience designing components, structures, and assemblies from a variety of materials.
10+ years of 3D CAD modeling experience.
5+ years experience with large scale, safety critical welded steel structures.
Strong fundamental skills with hand calculations and experience with structural FEA.
Demonstrated experience building teams, leading, and mentoring other engineers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to provide guidance to and receive it from engineers, designers, technicians, and suppliers.
A work history that includes at least five design, build, test, deploy/release/produce cycles for complex systems/vehicles.

What You Drive at DDC
Serve as Product Owner of the global Electric Vehicle targets Application (GEVT). Perform Data Architecture and Engineering for the Back-End operations of the GEVT, focusing on performance improvements and stability. Create and maintain the ETL Process (Extraction, Load and Transformation) for the datasets. Define output data types. Structure the tables. Calculate and extend the available datasets. Perform Data Visualization of results of the GEVT with PowerBI and Python. Create custom Dashboards and Usage Statistics. Audit/monitor the database ensuring correct usage and data integrity. Define standardized Templates for results presentation for the Global Concepts Teams. Coordinate and implement criteria/characteristics changes in the GEVT. Perform Data Analysis and exploration using Machine Learning and Custom Python visualizations. Document the application functions and maintenance (both in GitHub for the Development Team as well as on the Social Intranet for the User base). Coordinate and manage the GEVT with development team in DTICI. Interface and cooperation with the Daimler Truck Data Analytics Team and the TT/X Cloud Solutions Architect. Serve as Global Modular Electric Powertrain (GMEP) platform lead engineer for North America. Preform transfer of EV targets into powertrain potential concepts. Identify powertrain portfolio to meet new segment targets by enabling the database. Identify new powertrain components to meet new market targets. Feed vehicle projects with a powertrain portfolio that meets the market needs. Feed aggregate projects with specific components that need to be developed to meet a specific market need. Maintain and update product portfolio for all market segments including new developments. Perform electric vehicle lead benchmarking engineer. Create and establish benchmarking process for electric powertrains. Develop with HV Powernet team baseline for the HV Powernet for decommissioning and recommissinoing procedures of the vehicle to be benchmarked. Work with testing engineering centers and HV Powerent teams to create instrumentation requirements within the needed parts of the electric powertrain to be benchmarked. Develop in partnership with the testing technicians, the right procedures and tools to be able to install the measurement devices into the electric powertrain. Lead the testing requirements within internal and external laboratories and/or testing centers to execute planned tests. Lead report out to internal team, testing and simulation stakeholders as well as upper management to identify areas where Daimler Truck vehicles would benefit from the learnings obtained from competitor benchmarking. Coordinate and execute all IT-Infrastructure request and approvals (Data Security, Cloud Security, etc.) for GEVT. Serve as Contact person for the GEVT Application through the Support. Work with Daimler Truck global teams and DTNA partners to confirm specifications, validation plans, report templates, and other documents used will meet all company, local, state, and federal requirements for new electric and hybrid powertrain concept generation. Advise top Daimler Truck leadership and customers on industry trends and opportunities regarding developing future ZEV technologies. Act as a mentor for the ePowertrain concepts team, develop training material, and give inspiring technical presentations to support local ePowertrain team. Manage external relationships with suppliers, universities, and other technology partners.
Knowledge You Should Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related.
4 years of experience in job offered or related.
Must have 4 years of project lead experience in BEV field.
Must have experience with: truck products and markets; commercial vehicle design with a focus on electrical or power systems; designing HV electric vehicle systems above 200V; and DFMEA & Functional Safety for automotive electronics products.
Domestic and international travel is required, as needed, up to 20% per year.
