Have the specific skillset and experience for the following role: The experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager, reporting to the Engineering Director, will primarily be responsible for leading our mechanical engineering function within a dynamic matrix organization. This senior leadership role will provide functional management for the Mechanical Engineering, Stress Analysis, CAD Design, and Thermal Hydraulic groups, ensuring technical excellence while supporting project delivery across multiple programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining a world-class engineering team capable of delivering innovative solutions for the commercialization of the Integral Molten Salt Reactor. Key Responsibilities You will serve as the functional leader responsible for the supervision, professional development, and technical qualification of mechanical engineering staff across multiple disciplines. You will establish and maintain engineering standards, processes, and procedures that ensure compliance with nuclear industry codes and standards including ASME, CSA, and relevant regulatory requirements. Your role will involve workforce planning, recruitment, and retention strategies to build organizational capability aligned with business objectives. You will provide technical oversight and guidance to ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and project requirements while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. In the matrix organization structure, you will collaborate closely with project managers and other functional leaders to allocate resources effectively, balance workload across the Engineering Department, and resolve competing priorities. You will be accountable for the performance management of your team, including conducting regular reviews, identifying skill gaps, and creating individual development plans that support both employee growth and organizational needs. The position requires establishing and maintaining technical competency frameworks for each engineering discipline under your supervision, ensuring that staff members possess the appropriate qualifications and certifications required for nuclear engineering work. You will serve as a technical lead within the organization, participating in design reviews, providing input on major technical decisions, and representing the mechanical engineering function in interactions with regulators, customers, and industry partners. This role will also involve participating in micro/nanofabrication projects that TAMU principal investigators and external customers are engaged in, including MEMS, BioMEMS, microfluidic, and semiconductor devices. Responsibilities: * Developing suitable recipes to achieve optimum results from the process tools for various AggieFab customer research projects. * Executing staff runs for academic and industrial customers and preparing detailed reports. * Establishing standard operating and training procedures. * Maintaining stable operation of tools under their purview by performing periodic control runs and obtaining inputs from the user base. * Training academic and industrial users in the operation of tools. * Training and supervising undergraduate student workers. * Working with tool vendors in developing tool operations and performance enhancements. * Establishing preventative maintenance programs and/or working with tool manufacturers to troubleshoot problems and achieve a high up-time for the user base. * Performs other duties as assigned. JOB SUMMARY Performs advanced and managerial engineering and oversight work. Work involves managing and directing engineering projects and activities; and reviewing and issuing permits and authorizations. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A. Conducts detailed inspections of projects during construction to ensure compliance with the Texas Engineering Practices Act; ensures project quality assurance; and reviews and certifies as-built construction drawings. B. Provides consultant and liaison services to internal and external organizations regarding new design concepts, solutions to problems, and changes to policies and laws; and provides technical assistance regarding installed equipment selection, acceptance, operation, and maintenance. C. Oversees the preparation of electrical design criteria documentation and commissioning specifications for facilities and facility subsystems; and plans, develops, conducts, and coordinates electrical engineering activities. D. Conducts and coordinates field visits and inspections; monitors contractor performance; assists in conducting operation evaluations; and provides technical assistance regarding the selection of building systems and components. E. Prepares electrical construction plans, drawings, estimates, and specifications; prepares and affixes engineering seals to drawings and specifications in compliance with codes and standards; and performs electrical engineering calculations and prepares documentation to determine adequacy of design. * Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A. Education, Experience, and Training 1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Each year of experience as described below in excess of the required six years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis. 2. Six years full-time, wage-earning electrical engineering experience in facilities engineering work to include design, construction, or operation and maintenance work. A Master's degree in Engineering from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by CHEA or by the USDE may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 3. Current, valid license as a professional electrical engineer in the State of Texas, or if currently or previously licensed as a professional engineer in any state, must obtain Texas professional engineer licensure within six months of date of employment. Must maintain valid license(s) for continued employment in position. Selected applicants without required license(s) must sign a Credential Contingency Agreement that will remain in effect only until the initially established expiration date. Failure to comply with this contingency statement will result in separation from employment. Credential Contingency Agreements will not be extended or renewed as a result of an employee's separation from employment or acceptance of another position. * Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as it is defined by state law. Knowledge and Skills 1. Knowledge of facility management techniques and practices. 2. Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, statutes, and codes pertaining to electrical design and construction of government facilities preferred. 3. Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred. 4. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. 5. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public. 6. Skill in reading and interpreting working plans, drawings, and specifications. 7. Skill in reviewing and applying policies, procedures, rules, regulations, schedules, guidelines, and contract requirements. 8. Skill to manage multiple projects and activities. 9. Skill in the use of computer software relevant to design and project management. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION A. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment. B. Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane. C. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
