Key Responsibilities: As a Mechanical Design Engineer I at Interface, you will be learning the most advanced, high performance, and sustainable design techniques from discipline leaders on multiple projects. Your duties will include (but may not be limited to):
Engineering/Design: Participating in the engineering and design for a wide variety of MEP building project types and sizes.
Teamwork: Participating as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and receiving guidance, support, task delegation, and mentorship.

Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.

Job Responsibilities:
Analyze and design components of challenging multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. Experience in the design of underground structures (tunnels, shafts, stations, etc.), trenchless, pipelines, reinforced concrete, geotechnical investigations and evaluation, hydrological analyses, slope stability, or retaining walls preferred.
Develop engineering recommendations and write technical reports
Prepare reports, plans, and specifications
Communicate effectively with Schnabel team members
Assist project managers with project coordination and administrative tasks
Manage and mentor junior engineers, commensurate with experience level
Participate in the development of a cohesive, positive culture company-wide to cultivate a best-in-class environment that allows our people to realize their full potential
Required Skills/Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
5+ years of design- and/or construction-oriented consulting engineering experience.
A Professional Engineering license or EIT certification with future ability to become a Licensed Professional Engineer
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail and well organized
Familiarity with heavy civil construction means and methods
Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel
Be physically able to navigate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside in various weather conditions.

What You Will Do

What You Will Do
As a Project Engineer in our Drilling Division, you'll be the right hand to the Project Manager, driving every technical and operational detail that keeps our drilling projects on track and on budget. You'll plan, coordinate, and support all engineering aspects-from kickoff to closeout.
Your day-to-day will include:
Supporting project planning, scheduling, and engineering execution from start to finish.
Preparing and maintaining project documentation, technical specs, progress reports, and as-built drawings.
Working with drillers, superintendents, and field crews to solve problems and align on project goals.
Assisting with project budgeting, cost tracking, and financial forecasting.
Ensuring compliance with design standards, industry regulations, and safety protocols.
Conducting quality assurance checks and collaborating on risk assessments with the safety team.
Managing scope changes and supporting client communication with clear technical updates.
Participating in project review meetings and helping identify lessons learned for continuous improvement.
This is a hands-on role where your technical expertise and attention to detail will directly shape the success of every project.
What You Bring
1-2 years of experience in project engineering, construction management, or a related role-preferably in drilling or heavy civil construction.
Strong understanding of project workflows, documentation, and cost tracking.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and preferably Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat.
A knack for collaboration, communication, and problem-solving under pressure.

Project Engineer III
Mechanical engineer job in Urban Honolulu, HI
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Plans, organizes, coordinates, schedules, and directs engineering activities and project management requirements for major projects of significant complexity. Generally responsible for personnel reporting to this position on the projects.
Has a proven record of successes in managing projects of varying complexity. Successfully assumes supervisory responsibilities in the absences of department manager and/or field supervisors.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides support and guidance with the department's assignments and projects to ensure requirements and timeframes are met.
Manages selected and GO9 projects involving the installation, betterment, or maintenance of gas systems. This includes the preparation of the design and cost estimates, obtaining approvals through CER, scheduling of work crews and contractors, ordering of materials, managing the budget, and closing of the project.
Reviews and evaluates:
New business projects as submitted by Sales. Evaluates the proposed installation for compliance issues. Submits for City and County Planning approval and Fire Permits for LPG installations. Solicits bids for contractors if necessary.
Distribution renewal projects. Evaluates pipe sizing and pressure losses using Synergi. Solicits bids for contractors if necessary. Construction plans and proposals by outside agencies to preclude any conflicts with the utility gas network.
Provides consultation and assists in coordination with contracting agencies working near buried gas facilities. Prepares response letters to requests for plan reviews from other utilities, contractors, architects and developers.
Assists other department personnel in the interpretation of codes and regulations and provides expertise requested for new business projects and/or mains or services replacements or relocation; and LPG tank installations.
Provides technical assistance to architects, engineers, consultants and developers. Assists customers with the design and troubleshooting of their gas systems.
Prepares company standards, policies, and procedures to conform to federal and local codes.
Serves as an alternate performing the following activities:
Attends State and City utility coordinating committee meetings.
Operator at the Pier 38 Propane Air facility during planned/emergency shutdowns.
Absences of Department Manager and/or GIS & Metering Systems or T&D Supervisors.
OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complies with all applicable Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.
Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.
Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager.
Qualifications
Required Education and/or Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of related experience and education.
Two to five years satisfactory performance as an Project Engineer II or in-field total engineering experience of twelve years.
Good working knowledge of NFPA 58, UFC, City and County Plumbing Codes and 49 CFR 192.
Proficient in the MS Office suite of tools (Word and Excel), MS Project.
Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:
May be required to obtain and maintain certification of access to controlled/secured facilities, e.g. military bases, coast guard jurisdictional areas and other clearance related to the work.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:
Experience in using Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or CADD.
Preferred Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:
Professional Engineering license.
