Maintain CAD libraries, engineering change documentation, and best-practice design standards in the PLM system. What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or similar). 5 + years designing custom equipment, enclosures, or capital projects. Expert with SolidWorks (or comparable 3-D CAD) and comfortable integrating models into Autodesk Revit/AutoCAD plant layouts. Working knowledge of machining, sheet-metal, welding, and general fabrication processes. Familiarity with FEA tools; able to interpret standards, specs, and codes. The engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams in electromagnetic design, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Responsibilities Magnet Design & Simulation • Design novel magnet configurations for MRI systems. • Use finite element modeling (FEM) and electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS Maxwell, Opera, or CST) to optimize coil geometry, field homogeneity, shielding, and stray field containment. • Develop 3D CAD models for magnet assemblies, cryostat structures, and thermal insulation systems. • Perform magnetic field mapping, gradient interference analysis, and structural stress simulations. • Ensure structural integrity of magnet supports, pressure vessels, and vacuum enclosures under thermal cycling and Lorentz forces. • Model thermal conduction paths and analyze cooldown performance. • Provide the requirements and source the magnet power supply for the resistive designs. • Support prototype fabrication, coil winding, and integration with cryostats. • Define test protocols for field mapping, quench protection, and magnetic performance validation. • Analyze measurement data to compare real-world performance with simulations. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead and Perform stress analyses of nuclear pressure vessels and other highly engineered products. Utilize and conduct finite element analysis, custom post-processing software, and closed form analytical techniques. Perform and lead standard and advanced structural analysis methods including linear elastic sizing, fatigue, elastic-plastic, fracture mechanics, shock and vibration, and thermal/mechanical. Review and lead work for accuracy and compliance with technical requirements. Work with members of other engineering disciplines (manufacturing, quality, welding, drafters, thermal-fluids, etc.) in a team environment to generate component designs to meet code requirements and to optimize the design for manufacturability. Lead efforts to reduce cost and span of current components. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering. 5 years of industry experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in a technical field Working Knowledge of ASME Code Section III and VIII or AISC.
