Who will you be working with?
The Project Engineer can expect cross functional collaboration across all teams and specialties, providing an opportunity to interact with The Wooten Company colleagues in both North and South Carolina. Additionally, this person will regularly work with municipal and private clients, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies. This position is located in our Winston-Salem, NC office affectionately known as the City of Arts and Innovation. Winston-Salem is one of the three cities of the North Carolina Piedmont Triad with Greensboro and High Point completing the trio. The City is home to a unique and thriving downtown along with the historic Old Salem. Our office is located within walking distance of Old Salem a historic Moravian Community turned historic district with charming cobblestone roads and freshly made Moravian cookies. Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strong technical skills in design of water, storm water, and wastewater utilities with cradle-to-grave competency including:
Preliminary Engineering Reports
New and Rehabilitation Designs
Project Manual Preparation including Construction Contract Documents and Technical Specifications
Coordination with other disciplines as necessary including mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers.
Project Advertisement, Bidding, and Contracting
Experience with design of water distribution systems and / or sanitary sewer collection
Familiarity with federal, state and local agency regulations, primarily concerning municipal water and wastewater projects
Good communication skills and the ability to be involved in presentations to clients / attend meetings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
Minimum of 0-5 years of experience as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a consulting engineering environment
NC licensed Professional Engineer (or if licensed outside NC, ability to obtain NC license within one year)
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (O365) applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Managerial experience and / or desire to grow into a leadership role
Proficiency using AutoCAD (Civil3D) a plus
Experience with design of water distribution systems and / or sanitary sewer collection
Experience with hydraulic modeling is a plus
Familiarity with construction administration of municipal utility projects

Job Summary:
The ideal candidate should have previous experience with a General Contractor involved in both self-performing and subcontracting construction and/or rehabilitation of existing water/wastewater treatment plants.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide field office support to Project Manager, Superintendent, Foreman, Owner, Engineer, and other project stakeholders
Prepare and review submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers
Have a strong understanding of field operations and preferably a background in heavy civil construction
Manage contractor information, including maintaining tracking logs, documenting deliverables, establishing project files (hard and electronic), and tracking action items
Coordinate and attend progress meetings and construction meetings
Create and distribute meeting agendas, meeting notes, and spreadsheets for O&M (Operations and Maintenance) manuals, spare parts, training, testing, and supporting documentation

Qualifications and Skills:
3-5 years of experience, preferably in a consulting engineering environment in water and wastewater discipline, with a focus on utility design work including pipe, treatment plant, tank, and pump station design
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports
Experience working with Municipal clients
Progressive experience in planning, design, permitting, and construction administration of infrastructure improvements
Physical ability to perform work in the field
Detail-oriented team player with strong planning and organizational skills
High school graduation or recipient of a GED is required; graduation from a two/four-year college or technical school with an emphasis on civil engineering, construction, and water/wastewater management is preferred
