We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team!

We are looking for a top-notch Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate is responsible for providing mechanical designs that support the product development and product support goals of the organization. The role requires mechanical engineering technical knowledge plus the understanding of the mechanical design in conjunction with software design, mechanical design and systems engineering activities. Mechanical design solutions are to be developed against defined requirements and delivered in accordance with agreed schedules. The Mechanical Design Engineer ensures that mechanical designs are produced in accordance with the EOS design process and that they are developed to meet all stringent requirements.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Required
8+ years' experience, required
Proficient SolidWorks and/or PTC Creo Parametric, required
Proficient in Finite Element Analysis, required
Strong mathematics skills for basic physics and strength of materials calculations, required
Strong background in 2D drawing creation and checking, required

Undertake mechanical design finite element analyses in support of product research and development activities
Work with systems engineers to ensure that all requirements are identified, captured and analyzed such that design can be developed that satisfy the requirements
Undertake test and evaluation activities on mechanical and system designs to verify and sign-off of all design requirements
Work with other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive and complete system designs
Prepare and review all documentation required to support designs through standard gate reviews
Work with Project Engineers to ensure design solutions are delivered on time and on budget and meet other project management requirements
Development of subordinates in technical and professional capabilities
Creative evaluation of complex mechanical problems and designing lightweight geometries for military applications

The Valves, Actuators, and Ducts division of the Propulsion Engineering department is searching for a Mechanical Technician to support the Component Development Area (CDA). The CDA is a world-class small fabrication shop and testing laboratory supporting development and testing of space flight components and systems. The selected candidate must have practical experience and demonstrate knowledge in a wide range of technical and engineering methods that support tests at the CDA. Candidate will fabricate tubing, fixtures, pneumatic panels, hydraulic assemblies, and various mechanical systems; candidate will operate and maintain complex mechanical systems utilized in testing of space flight components.
Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Work directly with engineering personnel and/or senior technicians on the design, fabrication, installation, and operation of components and systems
* Usage and safe operation of mills, tube flaring equipment, saws, shear presses, grinders, and pneumatics
* Welding using various methodologies to assemble frames, test fixtures, and support assemblies for component testing
* Utilize detailed test procedures for safe operation of hydraulic, pneumatic, cryogenic, and high-pressure gas systems
* Interpret drawings, plans, and specifications for buildup and testing of flight type hardware and test components
* Utilize various tools and methods to perform work and maintenance on a variety of mechanical, fluid, and electrical components

Essential Functions:
Physical Requirements: Requires standing for extended periods of time while working in a shop/lab environment supporting testing, equipment maintenance, facility buildup, and fabrication of parts, and will necessitate wearing appropriate PPE including safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection when required (85%). Requires sitting for short periods of time working at a computer and participating in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at MSFC facilities to discuss technical issues (15%). Limited lifting or work on ladder is required (10%). Work will be performed onsite at NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center (100%). Requires use of stairs or elevators to gain access to buildings.
Work Environment: Work will be performed indoors and outdoors at the Component Development Area Lab (85%) and in a general office environment (15%). Requires ability to interact effectively with co-workers, managers, and clients. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing.
Equipment and Machines: Requires the ability to operate hand tools and power equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes, to support tasks at CDA (85%). Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, task related software, and other general office equipment (15%).
Attendance: Work assignments are normally 10 hour shifts, 4 consecutive days per week. Normal workday is 7:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday but may be adjusted to meet customer requirements or needs of employee. Regular attendance and punctuality are mandatory for meetings and other planned occasions.
Other Essential Functions: US Citizenship is required. Ability to communicate effectively and work under supervision is essential (100%). The Precision Control Actuation System department is seeking a mechanical design engineer to join the multi-disciplinary PCAS organization to support the development, build, and verification of control actuation systems. The PCAS organization staffs mechanical engineers for a variety of roles supporting primarily control section Integrated Product Teams. This individual will provide various mechanical engineering support as needs of programs fluctuate. Based on skillsets, support may include but is not limited to detailed mechanical design, earned value management, test design and execution, and systems engineering. * P3 - At this grade level, the individual will be expected to work autonomously with regular and periodic oversight, have advanced knowledge of the control mechanism development domain, and coach and review the work of lower level professionals.
* The PCAS organization provides ample opportunities for hands-on hardware work. PCAS mechanical engineers are exposed to a variety of lab activities including engineering builds, hardware integration, hardware tuning, and hardware verification.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Requirements:
2+ years of relevant experience
BS in engineering or related field (equivalent experience may be accepted)
Secret DoD Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret DoD Clearance
Desired Design experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, AutoCAD, or other relevant CAD softwares
Desired Analysis experience with ANSYS or ABAQUS,CAESAR, AFTFathom, AFT Arrow, and MATHCAD
Experience with GD&T
Experience designing custom machined components, large assemblies, and piping systems

Primary Responsibilities
Perform hand calculations on mechanical design assemblies, calculating basic stresses and possible interferences due to tolerance stack up, accounting for thermal effects and preloads
Create CAD models and derived drawings of parts and complex assemblies in SolidWorks
Support development of manufacturing equipment
Conduct ASTM standard thermo-mechanical material characterization tests
Requirements & Desired Skills
Active Secret security clearance or ability to receive and maintain clearance
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline
5+ years experience in relevant industry or technology area
SolidWorks modeling and drafting experience required
Familiar with ASME Y14.100, Engineering Product definition and Related Documentation Practices
