This internship will provide ample opportunities to perform design and structural analysis of turbine components for new product introductions (NPI), engine validation, RCA (root cause analysis), and Services support. Interns are paired with more senior members to ensure high-quality mentoring and training. Assignments are flexible and varied, where the assignment leader will work with the intern to “tune” their internship. Day-to-day tasks within the team can include detailed hardware design and ownership, developing tools, modeling in CAD (NX), stress and life analysis in FEA (ANSYS), test data evaluation, product definition, manufacturing and qualification support, and partnering with our Services team to tackle challenging RCAs. Detailed hardware design analysis to include thermal, stress and modal analysis, low and high cycle fatigue, creep, oxidation, fracture mechanics, and advanced analytical FEA methods and design optimization. Application of AI and Machine Learning tools in design and lifing analyses will be in scope. Project Outcomes: The outcome of the internship will involve the development and validation of analysis methodologies leveraging state of the art tools and techniques including machine learning, neural network, and other appropriate AI methods. Specific focus areas could include development of advanced creep management techniques for hot gas path blades and 3D fracture assessments in dovetails. The intern will learn turbomachinery components and lifing, and application of advanced modeling tools to predict and manage life of these components operating in extremely harsh environments.
