BR+A is looking for a skilled Mechanical Designer in our Houston, TX office. The candidate will be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The ability to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team is necessary. The ideal candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of Revit, and their responsibilities will include:
Performing advanced heating and cooling load calculations;
Developing sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas;
Developing equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases;
Editing specifications to reflect the project requirements;
Developing air and water flows;
Understanding fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application;
Using the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system;
Meeting with vendors to determine specification requirements for application;
Coordinating with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC details;
Responding to RFI's for the project, and accurately review submittals;
Understanding work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the plan;
Understanding the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and delivering appropriate documentation;
Modifying sequences of operations for AHU's, CHW and HW systems;
Understanding both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applying equipment;
Meeting with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details;
Performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in MechanicalEngineering.
Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit.
EIT (Engineer in Training) a plus.
Minimum of 2 years of experience.
Good understanding of engineering concepts, design, and spatial requirements.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Proactive and collaborative team member.
Experience in designing Healthcare, Commercial, Higher Education or Laboratory projects is preferred.
