What You Will Do:
Prepare detail and assembly drawings for precision motion systems.
Provide general CAD support to design engineers.
Generate 2D CAD drawings from 3D solid model layouts.
Load design information into PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system.
Work on a variety of engineering projects ranging from research and development to building and testing instruments.
Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled in a full-time academic program from an accredited college or university, majoring in mechanical engineering or another related field.
Legally authorized to work in the United States without needing sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with using SolidWorks CAD.
Some experience with the manufacturing process
Vocational school in engineering technology or metal fabrication
Shift Schedule:
Monday-Friday, in office.
Students typically work 40 hours a week, but hours can be flexible. All work needs to be conducted during our core business hours; the exact hours can be discussed with your manager.

Responsibilities
Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
Perform code reviews for HVAC/plumbing/fire protection designs.
Perform mass energy balance calculations.
Perform drainage and line loss calculations.
Perform flow test (hydrant or other) analysis.
Sanitary design considerations (layouts, process exhaust).
PID Drafting.

About You
Junior, or Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
HVAC and/or Utilities design experience is a plus.
Familiarity with heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics
Experience working with computer operations for engineering design programs and computer aided drafting is preferable (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
Understanding of the fundamental basics of performing calculations in areas of energy, drainage, line loss, etc.
Past Mechanical experience in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, or other sanitary environments is a plus.
Have a motivated and results orientated attitude.
Willing to travel to project sites - 25%

Zulu Pods is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer in our Northampton, Massachusetts location. The selected individual will continue developing our patented ZPod technology as well as explore potential new markets by designing, prototyping, and testing new products.
The experienced design engineer will help to innovate in the space of fluid mechanics, electromechanical devices, and help to solve complex engineering problems. Responsibilities:
As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the Zulu Pods development lifecycle, from concept generation to field deployment. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Design and Analysis: Lead the design, analysis, and validation of complex fluidic components and systems (e.g., propulsion systems, thermal management, fuel systems) for various aerospace applications.
System Integration: Oversee the integration of fluidic and mechanical subsystems into larger aerospace platforms, ensuring performance, safety, and reliability requirements are met.

Maintain precision, quality control, and safety standards during part fabrication.
Gain hands-on experience with GD&T, CAM programming (e.g., Fusion 360 or Mastercam), and material selection.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field. Technical trade school students will also be considered for machinist roles.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with relevant tools depending on the department (e.g., SolidWorks, MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, CNC equipment, CAM software).
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Passion for innovation and technology development.

Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design and development of subsystems for fixed-wing VTOL aircraft incorporating LiquidPiston's hybrid engine technology
Collaborate with design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing teams to support integration and prototyping
Participate in hands-on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical and structural components
Contribute to documentation and delivery of monthly technical reports to Department of Defense (DoD) partners
Support technical presentations and maintain organized engineering documentation
Preferred Skills and Experience
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) focused on composite aircraft structures
Rapid prototyping with additive manufacturing and composite materials (carbon/glass fiber, epoxy)
Experience with autonomous or R/C aircraft systems and electromechanical integration
Strong documentation and presentation skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Familiarity with aerospace design constraints and lightweight structural optimization

* Work with the Project Engineering lead on the program to drive the program forward.
* Assign and drive action items from meetings to closure.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
