The Role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing engineering inputs integral to both small and large-scale hydro and dam projects. You will lead technical teams and mentor junior staff, support production, and coordinate delivery of engineering work products with multi-disciplinary project team members and external stakeholders. You will not only support and help grow the broader engineering team capabilities, but your particular focus will be on continuing the development of our hydropower capabilities and working with key staff in growing the business.
You'll also be involved in supporting project management duties, coordinating with internal and external clients as well as assisting with guiding and mentoring other engineers within the team. In this role you will lead teams conducting technical work involving turbines, generators, and their associated ancillary systems, as well as other balance of plant systems such as gates, hoists, cranes, pumping systems, lubrication systems, and other critical equipment at hydroelectric powerplants. You will lead teams conducting technical work for feasibility studies, engineering designs, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and carrying out site visits and inspections. You will be working in a collaborative environment with a great team of engineers, technicians, scientists, and other industry-leading peers, and you will also interface directly with clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Design modifications to, or entirely new, mechanical systems related to dams, control structures, water retaining structures, and hydroelectric generating stations.
Execute multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion. Projects will include a variety of small to large projects involving water resources, flood control, and hydroelectric sectors.
Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and provide design and construction support.
Mechanical engineering design and refurbishment of cranes, hoists, hydroelectric turbines, generators, and other balance of plant systems.
Conduct feasibility studies for proposed designs and assess costs and benefits for alternatives in a systematic and thorough manner.
Preparation and review of reports.
Work collaboratively with other disciplines to execute project deliverables, as well as ensure that quality objectives, schedules, and budgets are met.
Edit and prepare design specifications.
Contribute to the development of the hydro-mechanical practice at KGS by assisting the US mechanical design lead by documenting technical knowledge, improving internal production processes, coordinating and developing internal training content, and other tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
About You
To fill the role, we're looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights should include:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. A post-graduate degree would be an asset.
Minimum of 7-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Washington, Oregon, or California, as well as eligible for registration as a professional engineer in other states by comity through NCEES; or, if not already registered as a PE, would be able to obtain licensure within 1 year from date of hire.
Previous consulting experience is preferred, but not required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Must be self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision and manage several projects simultaneously.
Travel to project sites is usually limited but will be required at times depending on project/client requirements. The amount of travel time desired by our employees can usually be accommodated.
Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks.
Client interaction: must be able to effectively assume a lead role as project engineer at project meetings and communicate project and technical information.

Key Responsibilities
Product Engineering & Fit
Own technical development across cut & sew knits and wovens (tops, dresses, skirts, bottoms, loungewear, and outerwear).
Lead fittings from proto through TOP, providing clear, actionable fit comments that balance design intent, comfort, and commercial viability.
Develop and maintain base size standards, grade rules, and blocks for core categories, ensuring consistent fit across seasons.
Solve construction challenges with an eye toward both aesthetic detail and production feasibility.

Our 2026 Internship Program offers a 10-week immersive experience, providing in-depth training in Oracle Primavera P6 scheduling, plan and contract reviews, as well as practical field engineering tasks, including structural inspections of California High-Speed Rail (CA HSR) bridges under construction. As a Luster Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in key project delivery functions such as quantity take-offs, quality control inspections, and change order tracking. Intern Program participants include Luster (Employer of Interns), AECOM/Fluor JV (Prime Consulting Firms that Luster works with on the Project), and California High Speed Rail Authority (Client of AECOM/Fluor JV).
We are hiring two Interns majoring in Civil Engineering or Construction Management to join our team. Interns will collaborate closely with experienced Luster Engineers at CA HSR and have the opportunity to engage with representatives from Luster, AECOM/Fluor, and CA HSR. These engagements may include breakfast or lunch meetings, social events, and scheduled meetings, providing interns with valuable insights into the program's organization and management. Interns will actively engage in team meetings, project site visits, safety training, and special project events. Every effort will be made to fully integrate Interns as valued members of the infrastructure delivery team. This internship provides a unique opportunity to acquire valuable industry experience and develop essential skills in a dynamic, supportive environment.
As one of our Field/Office Engineer Interns, you will develop critical skills in construction management by learning how our team oversees contractor activities related to cost, schedule, and budget. You will gain hands-on experience in essential project management areas such as scheduling, estimating, and monitoring construction progress. This role offers a balanced combination of fieldwork and office tasks, allowing you to track and manage construction activities effectively.
Your responsibilities will include conducting design reviews for field construction, performing quantity estimations, carrying out field inspections, and assessing schedules for potential delays. Additionally, you will participate in executive and team meetings, providing you with valuable insight into the complex, dynamic elements that drive successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Project Oversight & Monitoring: Shadow and support our Project Manager in applying strategies and tools for verifying design and construction processes. You'll assist in tracking, measuring, and reporting on essential project metrics like scope, quality, risk, schedule, and cost.
Contractor Coordination: Learn about the methods and techniques our construction management team uses to oversee contractor activities, focusing on budget, schedule, and cost controls.
Scope Development & Estimation: Contribute to the development of scope of work and level of effort assessments, and gain exposure to the critical aspects of scheduling and estimating in project management.
Field & Office Work: Your responsibilities will include both on-site fieldwork (transportation with the Luster Intern Mentor) and office-based tasks related to tracking and managing construction activities, giving you a well-rounded view of project management.
Design & Construction Review: Take part in design reviews, quantity estimations, field inspections, and schedule evaluations. You'll also analyze potential delay impacts and learn how to address them.
Executive Exposure: Attend executive meetings and participate in team discussions, project site walks, safety training, and special events to gain a comprehensive understanding of how large infrastructure projects are managed.
Minimum Qualifications
The program is open to undergraduate students (Junior or Senior level) enrolled in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or a related major at an accredited four-year university in California, such as California State University, Fresno (‘Fresno State') or University of California, Merced (‘UC Merced'). Eligible applicants should have completed at least two years of coursework toward their degree. The program is particularly well-suited for Juniors and Seniors who have made significant progress in completing their core degree requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Willingness to travel to field sites as needed.

Internship Dates
The duration of the Luster National, Inc. Internship Program is 10 weeks with a schedule of Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm PT.
